For other Edgeryders to interact with you, you need to be visible: you need to be known. On the web, where you canโt very well hang out in a physical sense, that comes down to curating your profile so that it conveys a sense of who you are and what you are trying to do. Without this information, other Edgeryders will find it difficult to interact with you. You you canโt get help if you donโt ask for it; you canโt forge an alliance if people donโt know that you want to.

Taking time to really think about where you are now and defining it in terms of what you want to achieve, what you have to offer and what you need is a useful exercise in and of itself. This is not a CV, itโs about communicating who you are to others in terms of what you are putting your energy and focus into right now.

FIlling in our profiles makes it much easier for the community managers and others who enjoy connecting people to do so. With this information, other Edgeryders will find it much easier to interact with one another. We canโt get help if we donโt ask for it; we canโt find collaborators or people who might be interested in what we are trying to achieve if people donโt know that we want to.
How to take on this mission
To create or edit a user profile, click on your user name on top of the search field in the upper right corner of your window. You will be transported to this page (only if logged in). Above the avatar you will find horizontal tabs that give you full control over your profile.
- The first thing to do is click on the "Edit account" tab and upload a picture: avatars are used by many pages, and users with no avatar are filtered out of those views.
- Next, click on the "Edit profile" tab. The information in the user profile is all in the user bio box. The links below it give you fine-grained control over your profile and account, and are only used by the most advanced and demanding users.
Suggestions for building a great profile
- Tell us your general location. This makes it easier for us to connect people, coordinate local events etc.
- Tell us which languages you speak. Edgeryders community members are involved in projects all over the planet. Sometimes a little help with language-related issues makes a HUGE difference.
- Tell us about what you would like to contribute to, and your peers in Edgeryders. This makes it easier to invite everyone to get involved in things they are interested in or really enjoy doing.
- Tell us what projects you are working on. Concrete projects you are rolling out are perfect; upcoming ideas, dreams, or stuff like the degree you are working on are also good.
Are there any EVENTS to share: If you are going somewhere (conferences, festivals, anywhere where there is public admittance) let Edgeryders know. This will increase your poissibility to arrange to meet up: โOh, youโll be at StrigenFunken2012, thatโs fantastic! Letโs meet up there.โ Add them to the events page!
