This is the hangout and meeting space of the Edgeryders webhome. Welcome to discuss plain everything of mutual interest! Write a post and get feedback, or give feedback with comments. Especially if you don't want to create a permanent project for your idea or topic, this is a good way to engage with your fellow Edgeryders.

Share your story from the Edge! We learned that a very efficient way to get the most out of being a member in our community is to talk with all honesty about how we are living and participating in society, and where we need help to improve our situation and that of our communities.

News about our OpenandChange application and how we win anyway!

Noemi's picture

Earlier this week we received this message:

email

Context: in October, 24 projects led by formal and informal groups have signed a partnership and submitted a proposal to 100andChange competition. We proposed a massively collaborative way of fixing health and social care, and in the process we taught ourselves to collaborate online with low costs (most partners haven’t met each other in real life!).

CALLING ALL CHANGEMAKERS!

You are invited to come to GAS 2016, St-Imier Switzerland, where we want to co-create a culture inspired by permaculture principles.

On the weekend of September 16-18 we will meet for the 5th time in the tradition of our Beau-Sejour gatherings. This year we want to gather our abundant energies to power something we are calling a "synergy hub" and change the world together.

Curate your own Edgeryders [hi]story!

Nadia's picture

In this tasks we ask you to curate you own list of favorite/most relevant Edgeryders posts ahead of LOTE5. That way others with mutual or complimentary interests can find and start to interact with one another ahead of the event. Completing this task is worth one ticket to LOTE5.

Background

Update the news wiki with new content and calls for action

Nadia's picture

Hi friends,

now that everyone has had some time to get into their projects it is time to start using social media in a more focused and regular way. So how do we leverage our collective online presence to draw attention and engagement to all the beautiful work and opportunities for collaboration?

We have some past experience in running a variety of formats such as twitterstorms (flashmobs on the internet) that are very effective at drawing interest to community initiatives. and they are ALOT of fun for everyone involved.

ER survey response for Real Economy Lab

BenB's picture

Hi edgeryders,

This is a request for input from someone well familiar with ER community who can offer their insight as a representative 'profile' of the project / network to a new collaborative research and mapping effort covering the landscape of economic systems change.

You can read a bit more about the initiative here: realeconomylab.org/blog

The survey form is available here: http://goo.gl/forms/zGGT0feqw0

need sys admin for paid project

I'm running a WordPress multisite installation on a Ubuntu/Nginx server. Need some help with setting up monitoring configurations because the site has gone done for a few hours at a time and (lacking support staff to monitor 24/7) I need to implement both some security measures as well as monitoring/reboot processes.

$100 USD or 80euros to start. More if necessary, TBD.

Set up an assembly at CCC

Nadia's picture

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else going to CCC? I thought it might be cool to test out one of the ideas we had in the meeting after lote about different event formats. This idea being going to different events and setting up some kind of presence there. So does anyone want to set up an assembly with me?

Rethink how we use, package and produce Community Content

Nadia's picture

Not only is effective use of collaboratively produced content important for growing our practical knowledge and supporting our intellectual development.  It can also serve as a source of inspiration and pleasure. When it's really good it also contributes towards encouraging mutual support and facilitating meaningful collaboration between community members.

Create a post-lote4 follow up newsletter: Help me fill in the gaps

Nadia's picture

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for a beautiful lote. I am so happy we finally managed to find the time to really meet one another and have an open conversation(s) about many questions and issues. Including where we want to take things looking forward together.

[LOTE4 Tickets] Design icons for Project Page

I will design a small number of icons to make the Projects page easy to navigate and visually consistent.

The icons will make it easier for someone (for example a newcomer on Edgeryders) to get an overview of the different kinds of groups found on the platform. They will also ensure the page gives a sense of diversity without overwhelming visuals.

Working Out Loud: OPENandChange workshops in Thessaloniki, Brussels and Berlin!

Noemi's picture

We launched OPENandChange last week as a deeply participatory application building process in response to the MacArthur's Foundation 100 million dollar prize to a project solving a key global crisis. Candidate solution: provision of care services by communities equipped with open source knowledge and technology. We are building a swarm of grassroots initiatives and submitting in a partnership by October 3rd.

Can you help me manage & teach me how to maintain a CentOS VPS?

ton's picture

Hi all, since some time I have a VPS running in a Swiss datacenter. It runs CentOS. My linux knowledge is limited, so in maintaining the VPS I google around for tips and learn by trial and error. This is ok most of the time, but sometimes more critical things pop up, and then I find I am quickly at the limit of my knowledge and googling for an answer becomes too time consuming.

New Report: Economic importance of Internet Infrastructure

Nadia's picture

"Over here this interesting report was published today. It compares the economic impact of the big harbour of Rotterdam, the airport Schiphol, and the fiber and exchange infrastructure around the AMS-IX.

Surprise: the growth is much higher of the Internet "harbour" Economy, soon to overtake the others in absolute size."

SWARMWISE - leadership book by Rick Falkvinge

Freelab's picture

"The book doesn’t go into theoretical detail, psychology, or deep research papers. Rather, it is very hands-on leadership advice from pure experience – it covers everything from how you give instructions to new activists about handing out flyers in the street, up to and including how you communicate with TV stations and organize hundreds of thousands of people in a coherent swarm.

Incubators/accelerators for (social) businesses on the edge

Alberto's picture

As our beautiful stunted mutant of a company seems to be taking roots, I am looking around for possible incubators/acceleration programmes. This is quite tricky, because they tend to cater to for-profit businesses. This wiki contains links and one-line description of programmes that might be a good match for companies as "far out" as Edgeryders LBG. Needs an Edgeryders account to be edited.
