This is where the magic of building Living on the Edge happens. To get involved in the workspace you first need to become an Edgeryder by signing up here

Background: this space builds on the discussions around different proposals from community and takes fully on the proposal still standing - an unconference based on FuckUp nights and fuckup moods and failure as main theme. "We commit ourselves to the art of being wrong and of openly talking about failure" - @ireinga in Brussels (learn more)

After #lote5: Where do we even begin to talk about failures in care?

Nadia's picture

"Welfare is the safety net of society. Its failures are everywhere around us, but often are vested with narrative values that transcend its original socio-cultural substrate. A suicide, somebody giving up on a career to become a family care giver, a student drop out, a veteran affected by PTSD turning tramp, and so many others, are all ultimately failures of welfare.

BORROWING PENS :-)

KiraVde's picture

To all LOTE5 participants working in big companies: do you perhaps have a big stash of pens that nobody will miss if you bring them to LOTE?

Finalize practical info about Brussels to send participants on Monday

Noemi's picture

Elien, Irene can you two fill in pieces of information I may be missing about Brussels? It should cover:

1) getting to the venue + getting to the evening sites for those coming directly to the Soirees
2) hot spots in the neighborhood
3) what to bring/ wear, if anything (Belgium weather, or other local quicks)
4) potentially your contacts too should they need to get in touch quickly

DIRTY JOB

KiraVde's picture

Not sure yet what your taks at LOTE5 will be? Enjoy all things tidy? Like the circular economy where everything is neatly recycled?

Make yourself our CleanFreakResponsible!

You will:

- be that angel person that at always lingers around to make sure the rooms are tidy enough to use again the next day

- get to know all of Brussels recycling system, lucky you

- get to boss people around when they don't recycle well

Make the pics of the Speakers page square

Alberto's picture

The speakers page looks very messy. The table format that was chosen takes care that all columns are equally wide, but it cannot constrain the height of the columns. It only works visually with square images and short texts. The images I have uploaded are all square.

Can someone:

  1. download the non-square images.
  2. crop them into a square
  3. re-upload them

Thanks!

[Design task] Graphics and cards with participants bios for printing

Noemi's picture

This is first a question: should we collect, design and print nice graphics for the event? The only reason we would do it is to encourage people connecting with each other easier. We could use FuckUp Bios so that it's genuine and not the boring conference stuff. It always comes down to deciding to put some effort into this. Otherwise we stay digital and it's fine. No pressure :-)

Make a in/out plan for speakers

Alberto's picture

When are speakers coming? When are they living? Where are they staying? We need to know all this  to keep track of comings and goings, and also to organize a speakers dinner.

Documenting LOTE5 - call for #fail #unfail reporters

ireinga's picture

This is a call for LOTE5 reporters, videomakers, blogwriters, audio recording artists and alike to harvest their preferred material and build LOTE5 knowledge.

@Kaja offered to orchestrate this task, set up the LOTE5 "harvesting" and start the dances.

LOTE5 Name tags

Attached are pdfs for printing the name badges.

I will also post the original Indesign files and some JPEgs of the balnk designs. But will do this in a message post as i cannot upload these file formats to a document.

Documentation HowTo - posters

Noemi's picture

Following up on discussions with @Kaja we'll try to make it easier for documenters to point people to these or simply repeat this in the beginnings of sessions.

Uploading the files (two versions).

Hey guys! I made this for a francophone friend and thought it might be useful for others too. Not guaranteeing that there are no mistakes :-)

Envie de participer a LOTE5?

Documentation/Harvesting of LOTE - what? why? how?

Noemi's picture

There's a reason you want to come to Brussels ... so where will all the gold nuggets we collectively dig out go to after LOTE5?

Have you ever been involved in a conversation or event where you solve all the challenges of the world (or at least the most important ones) - particularly late at night at the pub? Your head explodes with fireworks, you find all the solutions and you know exactly what to do - then you wake up the next morning and you've forgotten everything?

About this year's theme | Why we care about failure

Nadia's picture

“Fail. Fail again. Fail better!” Samuel Beckett

Everyone loves success stories, but look around you: failure is everywhere. Projects fail to deliver, collaborations collapse, systems fail to improve, organisations screw up, people blunder, policies fall short.

How do you survive failures in your work?
