Welcome to the project home of Makerfox, where we collaboratively develop and test this new tool. (You may still know it by its preliminary name Economy App.)

“Your moneyless marketplace.”

Makerfox is a moneyless marketplace focusing on the maker / hacker / DIY / entrepreneurial economy. It uses a novel web-based software to run an economy on a modern, computerized form of barter, and is meant especially for areas where big numbers of people are economically excluded ("jobless") even though they have skills, time and needs. Just that there are no jobs for them in the traditional, formal economy. The software needs users to have an Internet connection, though. Still, that makes it applicable for Greece, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, several Northern African and Latin American countries.

How does it work? Makerfox wants to fix unemployment by enabling economic exchange without cash or credit money. For this, we developed a novel, computer-calculated multi-party form of barter which we call "network barter". We don't even try to hide this innovation since we believe it will be of much bigger use than we can find for it with our moneyless marketplace platform. So here's how we do it, plus when the user community has matured we will release the actual core algorithm doing these calculations as free and open source software (AGPL v3 licenced).

For its potential to generate jobs in Europe's current difficult economic situation, it was awarded the European Social Innovation Award 2013 and received funding from the European Commission.

We did much simulation over the last weeks; our biggest simulated barter trade had 100 participants and 10 000 EUR turnover. We then moved to letting the software do real-world deals, starting small again with a first trade from 2014-03-13, including 3 users,100 EUR turnover and a lot of bugs that we're fixing now :P

State of the Art: We are in public beta test now! Register at makerfox.com to become an early adopter and influence our development path with your feedback! All your offers and orders are live, so you might as well become part of the world's first network barter deals :)

The Barter Matrix – Create your own small network barter deal, live

The attached files contain a template for manually creating a small network barter deal during a presentation, barcamp session or other social gathering. The template is for up to 5 people with up to 4 offers each, but you can extend it. It has not yet been tried in a live environment, so better do that before real-world use wink Instructions for use:

Funding Idea's

The conversation last week about the Horizon2020 grants gave me a fair amount to think about.

I didn't know how small the chances were for us to receive any of this money. The figure @Alberto quoted was around 3% that we'd get the grant, and 97% that we wouldn't.

One of the things that i learned when studying exam techniques, was that if a question is only worth 3% of the overall marks for an exam, then you shouldn't spend more than 3% of the total exam time on it.

Moneyless city taxes in Italy!

New regulations introduced by the Italian government (full text, in Italian. Beware: it is very long and deals with all kinds of crisis-fighting measures, not just this one bit) allow local authorities to reduce local taxes to citizen who volunteer in civic activities.

Moneyless Euro Proposal

This proposal for a "real economy clearing system" for Greece is meant for the perusal by anyone dealing with Greek public finances these days. (Esp. of course for Yanis Varoufakis and Alexis Tsipras if we are lucky enough to catch their attention.)

The following proposal to introduce "moneyless Euros" via  clearing system is designed to:

I need a Service that isn't offered on Makerfox yet.

How would i go about posting a request for a skillset that hasn't been offered yet, but is something i need?

Would it be possible to add in a referral functionality, where other members of Makerfox could see what you were looking for, and recommend someone that's part of their circle, but not necessarily a member of Makerfox yet?

It would help us grow, as well as covering the shortfalls in our skillsets.

Funding databases and opportunities (seed content)

As seed content for the upcoming collaborative research effort to identify funding opportunities for Edgeryders-ish projects, here is what the Makerfox project has collected / found out so far. It concentrates on grant funding for social innovation, digital tech and related ideas and projects. It is only about monetary funding options.

Can we help young Europeans find work? With Makerfox?

It's fun to play with the Makerfox and see it grow up a bit, as we use it for the LOTE4 tickets … and yet, the Makerfox wasn't invented to be just cute like this, but to solve a real-world problem. Creating jobs (or, compensated work as I like to call it). Esp. for the young generation in Europe.

Makerfox Detailed Description Document

Our main document for presenting and explaining the network barter idea behind the Makerfox platform. It should give the most clear impression about what we're up to and how we are going to implement it.

Note: this still uses the project's original, preliminary name "Economy App".

How to develop a local barter community?

This is a wiki page. Everyone welcome to contribute or comment (needs a signup though).

Like every community, our barter economy community needs a way to found and grow it. In our case, we weill start lcoally with a pilot community in Matera, southern Italy, alongside the unMonastery project. But how?

Scientific Background for Multilateral Barter Algorithms

Last time I felt like this was when buried in writing my diploma thesis: I just emerged from about 20 hours of web research and I think I found many (most?) immediately relevant scientific research that I can build upon while developing the higher-performance version of the Economy App's network barter algorithm.
