A future space of work and life for Edgeryders.

  • A tolerant, safe space to nurture p2p collaboration and trade across cultural, geographic and disciplinary borders.
  • A permanently sustainable support system for individuals working to tackle socioeconomic, ecological and political problems in their communities.
  • A laboratory for gently exploring new ways of living and working together in diversity.

It would allow us to have in the same place permanent homes for a core group, temporary accommodations for others and shared spaces for working.

A good situation is one where we are not paying more than 3000 Euros/month and can accommodate 5 bedrooms (or more), an appropriate number of bathrooms and large open spaces.

The space would be financed in part by permanent residents, temporary residents and the Edgeryders company (which would sign the lease). .

Locations: Well connected cities close to major transport hubs. First location under consideration is Brussels.

The decisions about choice of location for The Reef, and other practical details will be made by the board of Edgeryders. That said, we are keeping an open mind and take any and all suggestions by community members under serious consideration.

Not quite The Reef: some lessons from ROAM

Nadia and I are at ROAM Ubud. ROAM is a company that runs several sites worldwide (Miami and Ubud are fully operational, London and Tokyo are just kickstarting, more are supposed to follow). At least here in Ubud, it offers an experience which is about 3/4 hotel and 1/4 co-living. It has 21 en-suite rooms, a rooftop coworking space, a café, and a communal kitchen opening onto a a courtyard dominated by a small swimming pool ("the chill room"). It's not cheap, especially by Bali standards: a room costs 500 USD a week, or 1,800 USD a month.

About this initiative: The Reef is a platform for supporting adults working on projects tangibly improving living conditions in their communities by providing them with room and board. It consists of a permanent physical space managed by Edgeryders. As well as an online platform that connects individuals with spare room, and volunteers to not-for-profit organisations who's work they wish to support by hosting them.

Membership Models and Prices

This wiki is where we refine the offer to Reef members. It's purpose is to help us think about what we are looking for, realistic prices etc. Suggestions are welcome and will be taken into consideration. The final choice of space, pricing and governance model will be made by the board of Edgeryders (the organisation would be signing the lease). - Nadia
