This group has been created as a home to the first round of applications to the unMonastery, opening in Matera next Feburary. As part of the second tier of the application process we thought it would be useful for everyone to get a better idea and insight into the projects being proposed in order to offer support, peer review and support to potential future unMonasterians.

You can read more about the process on the website:

Project Proposal: Active membrane

Active membrane

the unMonastery unGovernance through emergent rituals

The challenge

On one side unMonks. On the other Matera's citizens and stakeholders.
How can unMonks become a community?
How can they listen to Matera's citizens and stakeholders, integrate with them, have an impact addressing the 12 challenges?
How can we co-create a living organism for a 4 months period, creating mutual exchanges among unMonks and Matera?

We are doing a transplant.
We are putting together a rich diversity of mainly stranger cells (the unMonks, from different countries, experiences, characters and with diverse skills) to create a totally new organ. And this organ will need to become part of a living organism that is Matera. The main challenge is first to have the organ working, than to let it exchange blood with the living organism, letting it grow and avoiding rejection.

Postponing the deadline for applications?

Hi all,
I don't mean to challenge the nascent structure of th unMonastery project... but I believe I should share my mild frustration about the call for proposal calendar. It seems to be such a missed opportunity to have the deadline fall right before LOTE#3 rather than right after. I am pretty sure fabulous ideas will emerge from experiencing the city and meeting Edgeryders & locals. Any thoughts anyone?

New thoughts

I would like to relay this story as it made me rethink my proposal. I thought i would visit Matera to see at first hand so this weekend i made a trip.we booked in a b and b and the next day the person Nicola who runs the b and b offered to take us to see the rock churches and he would be our guide. At one of the small churches somebody had broken the door and you could go inside, but when we went in Nicola was Very upset because on the floor where Majolica tiles marked a line for the pilgrims someone had stolen the tiles and smashed others.

Project proposal: public transport on the Web

This project is a web-based system to display information about public transport in real time.

Bus positions and other parameters (e.g. number of people onboard) are shown on a map of Matera in real time. The map is accessible to citizens via Web on traditional browsers, smartphones or touch screens. Other functionalities include the possibility to calculate best routes, find information about bus accessibility for disabled people and so forth.

In addition, citizens can search for nearby bus stops or next buses (with information about delays and scheduled arrival times) with few taps on their smartphones.

Finally, happenings or interesting places in Matera can be promoted on the interactive web map or on smartphone apps.

No tasks have been added to this group.
