We develop the shortest possible food supply chains to support small-scale farmers and a healthy nutrition. Actually it's just direct links between producers and consumers, not chains. The concept revolves around connecting the traditional, weekly Farmer's Markets to the Internet. It also includes a combined shipping solution for cost-efficient delivery in the local area and throughout Europe.

This new concept is currently being implemented by Lois in Matera, Basilicata, Italy, as part of the unMonastery's set of projects, and by Epelia in Germany (a start-up food shopping portal, which also provides the software infrastructure for this system).

If you want to set up a self-sustaining node of this system at your location, or have more ideas for supporting a healthy small-producer based food economy: let's talk! Simply post something to this project ...

This project of [food] redistribution is very interesting, we are also planning to open a center for food storage and shipping.

Together with you we'd like to organise an entrepreneurial project. We're looking for interested and willing individuals, we are currently in possession of vast amount of resources and we want to deploy these urgently and efficiently.

Here are plenty of images of what we have been doing with Fontana Buna in Italy.

Open Food Network crowdfunding starts tomorrow.

The Open Food Network crew start their crowdfunding campaign tomorrow 11am UK time.  They were recently in the UK visiting Stroudco (who have been developing food hub software for a while now for their food hub)  I introduced them, and Eric Bowen a year or so back having noticed they were all working on open source solutions.

Food Republic

We have created a low-profit company  a couple of years ago aimed at facilitating local food consumption, minimizing food miles and time the food takes to go from "the plant to your table".  We are piloting it now in a province in the North East if Italy (Veneto) and now reviewing the business model in view of the lessons learned so far! Our dream is to make small scale, high quality food production sustainable, allowing people to access great, fresh and healthy food at a fair price! Possible? We believe so but it also implies a flavor of collaborative economy.

BiaBox Ireland and OV(Food)Ns
