Edgeryders in Romania taking action for change, helping ourselves grow as a community, become each other's resource and build durable projects together. No strings attached, if you need help or connect with like minded people in our global network, just shout!

Meet more community members in this playlist. Why we started this movement in this context. What we did so far:

  • collected beautiful stories of beautiful people and shared them in this group.
  • met offline, cooked together, biked together, and supported one another's initiatives
  • hosted a workshop on collaboration in 2015 with 35 community members attending. Everyone contributed to make it happen! Takeaways here.
  • organized more informal meetups on several topics and partnered up with local events like Babele.co and OuiShare drinks, Hey Mărie's Sezătoare, Noaptea Caselor.

Welcome on board! Please introduce yourself in a post below (see Create a Post), we look forward to getting to know you! For detailed info contact noemi@edgeryders.eu

Between May-July 2015, Spot the Future was funded by ARCUB, the Cultural Centre of Bucharest Municipality. ARCUB is the entity coordinating the city’s European Capital of Culture 2021 (ECOC) bid. Ours is a pilot project that can hopefully inform new directions for the Bucharest 2021 programme. For more info about the bid visit Bucuresti2021 website.

Food Waste Combat through community dinners

Hey Futurespotters,

Just a quick note to let you know that I have joined a creative collective in Cluj running campaigns and interventions to fight food waste, and we hosted a tremendous dinner for 60. I know in Bucharest there's "Bucate Realese" - a community kitchen organising meals in similar fashion but not against waste necessarily, just sourcing local food.

Do you know other formats for community dinners  that are working and how? Maybe less visible, or completely spontaneous?

Green houses, “expelled” from the cities

Screws instead of foundation, walls made of casings or soil, insulation made of hemp, wool, reed or cellulose, gardens placed on the roofs, solar panels and modern technologies. These are a few ingredients of some green houses built outside the cities. The owners talked about why they decided to move from the urban tumult to build and how hard the process was in Open Source Circular Economy Days Sibiu, Romania.

How network collaboration takes time before it delivers small results. We're running OSCEDays in Sibiu, Romania!

Last year I finally started to actively connect the work I do in Edgeryders with changemaking in my homecountry. I'd had enough of being a stranger to the radical civic/ social/ ecological/ tech scene in Romania, and only working abroad. I even made a 6 month investment and moved to Bucharest announcing Futurespotters as a pilot, which was basically a local version of Edgeryders making use of our digital infrastructure without too much info overload for new members.

Puteti face asta in doua feluri:

- veniti la discutii in Sibiu ca participanti si poate ramaneti si pe a doua zi la Festivalul International de Teatru;

Hi everyone!

I’m really happy to (virtually) meet the Edgeryders community! My name is Alina and although I was born and raised in Bucharest Romania I spent the better part of the past 8 years studying and working in the UK and France. Until recently I worked as a responsible finance analyst for an asset management firm, which in simple terms means researching companies’ social, environmental and governance policies in order to make better long-term investment decisions.

Futurespotters Lab - A laboratory for the future of collectivities in Europe. Looking to collaborate!

After finishing our short experiment in community building, we propose a follow up of Futurespotters to actually work on projects discovered in the network: projects that members have or new ones, and help Bucharest walk the path of open, online grassroots collaboration.

Dar s-o luăm one step at a time.

Make a poster for the workshop

Hi!

Elena was saying in a comment yesterday that she has design skills. I am horrible at it, but was wondering if you can help turn the workshop agenda into a visual?
We only have it in boring text here, and now that it's final it would be great  to circulate it digitally and also print it on an A3 at the workshop.

Let me know and I can send over Edgeryders graphic materials to help..

Call for help: can anyone accommodate Nadia and Jeff next week in Bucharest?

@ all of you coming to the workshop, anyone up for hosting @Nadia and/or @Bezdomny at your place?

It would be a great opportunity to spend time together and show them around since it.s their first time in Bucharest. Get in touch as soon as possible?

If not, recommend a nice place for them to stay at? A not too crowded hostel maybe? AirBnb apartments are all taken I see, ever since May..

Make a facebook event page

Hey,

We probably need to go more public and use effectively channels outside this platform in the remaining 10 days to the workshop. This shouldn't be difficult now that we have gathered a first batch of stories from Bucharest (a lot of content in this group!), over 15 people registered and interesting sessions proposals.

Let me know what you think. I suggest a facebook event page with a clear instruction to register on edgeryders.eu for the workshop, and adding links to the following:

Update the news wiki with new content and calls for action

Hi friends,

now that everyone has had some time to get into their projects it is time to start using social media in a more focused and regular way. So how do we leverage our collective online presence to draw attention and engagement to all the beautiful work and opportunities for collaboration?

We have some past experience in running a variety of formats such as twitterstorms (flashmobs on the internet) that are very effective at drawing interest to community initiatives. and they are ALOT of fun for everyone involved.

Need your help in spreading the invitation to #Futurespotters workshop

Our project is a small initiative in terms of resources (we don’t have any money for promotion and we typically don’t rely on paid publicity anyway), but broad in scope. This makes it more interesting, because we turn to the network to help circulate the message. Imagine all of us 50 so far turning to one or two friends and inviting them in. They will be asked to do the same and so on.. this helps us easily grow our numbers and diversity, while keeping the doors open for other people to show up.

Workshop agenda

Update: 3 July - session list is pretty much done. Any other proposals, please put them in a comment and we'll see if there's more space, but as of today we can't promise anything. Unless we decide to go for a different format such as barcamp

Discoveries in the community so far

This wiki is editable, feel free to join in and help add the things you learned so far. It's a work in progress, so expect additions :) Will be adding links to the quotes so we have the sources right. If you like a quite, do share it with your friends. Hashtags: #futurespotters #Bucharest
