Rune Thorsen (b.1967) is a full researcher at the research and rehabilitation institute ‘Don Carlo Gnocchi Foundation’. He has authored several peer reviewed scientific publications and patents. He earned his Master of Science in electrical engineering (1994) and a Ph.D. in Bioengineering (1997) from The Technical University of Denmark. From 1994-1997 working in a medical technology company (Asah Medico A/S) as an Industrial Ph.D. Fellow in association with the University Hospital of Denmark. Pursued postdoctoral studies at The University of Twente, The Netherlands (1998); Politecnico di Milano, Italy (1999); and Salisbury District Hospital and University College London, England (2000). His main interest is rehabilitation engineering with focus on the restoration of motor ability in physically challenged people such as spinal cord injured and stroke victims. His research within the Neuromotor Area Group, at the Biomedical Technology Dept. involves neural prosthetics, biomedical engineering, embedded signal processing, medical electronic devices, software and hardware development. He has also successfully authored grant applications, research protocols, conducted clinical research and supervised students.
