Members of various solidarity networks, cooperative initiatives and grassroots innovation structures in Greece organise, for the third consecutive year in Athens, the Festival for Solidarity & Cooperative
Economy, which will be held between October 10th and 12th, 2014.
This year groups from different European countries are invited to exchange experiences, knowledge and struggles under the slogan “Another world is here, be part of it!”
Round 200 initiatives from over Greece participated in the previous festivals and hundreds of volunteers helped organise them. Participants varied from social clinics and solidarity pharmacies to time banks, social
kitchens, traditional seed banks, eco-communities, cooperatives or social solidarity and exchange networks, including initiatives like the worker’s self-managed factory of Vio.Me, the Kinisi 136 water movement, the Spithari eco-community project, the collective of Kafeneio Akadimias or Athens Time Bank, amongst others.
The Festival4sce differs from other similar events because it is entirely organized by grassroots initiatives. It is based on horizontality, collective decision making, direct democracy processes, reciprocity, solidarity,
participatory leadership and collective intelligence. There are no sponsors, no funding from organisations, nor arbitrage.
Year after year, the Festival4sce is a meeting point for exchanging knowledge and also offers visitors an alternative and effective way out of the crisis. Discussions, presentations and workshops will debate round: the commons, de-growth, exchange networks, alternative currencies, labour collectives, eco-communities, waste management, resource allocation, sustainability and social participation.
For the first time, this year the Festival4sce is calling upon groups from around Europe in order to create links between countries and initiatives, with the objective of transforming the festival into an event of interest across Europe.
The Festival4sce promotes a world that fosters communication, mutual exchange and the transition to a society based on participation and cooperation; which aims at self-management, solidarity, sustainability,
self-sufficiency and at respecting man and nature alike.
The festival is a live proof of what passionate and committed people can do if they work together.
