Hi @reeflings !
The day of the BBQ on the site is fast approaching, so time to get our organising hats on
On the Sunday, I will get to the site at about 11.30ish. We will aim to cook at about 2ish, so have a late brunch, bring snacks or both. At this point, I’m not planning for being there after dark, and therefore not thinking about things like light, firewood, etc…
On Saturday afternoon, I would like to go to the site and set a few things up, as well as take things like chairs and water. For this it would be good to have a couple of people to help, and for one of those people to have access to a car. Don’t think we need a poll for that, so let me know below or in a private message if you can help that afternoon, and if you have a car available for the job.
There is already a plastic table and six chairs at the site (although these will need to be cleaned). It’s unlikely we’ll have enough table space to sit everyone at one time, but if anyone has fold-up tables or camping tables, it would be great to bring them on the Sunday or for us to pick them up from you on the Saturday. Same for chairs, as we will need another 15-20. I have 5 fold-up chairs and 2 sun loungers (he said optimistically). Again, if you can bring some on the day or if it’s possible to pick some up from you on the Saturday, wonderful. I’m going to share a link to an Excel sheet below for knowing who has what to offer…
For the actual cooking side of things, we will need either 4-5 small portable BBQs, or some big pieces of metal grill and some bricks. Probably the former, but I’ll put the possibility of the latter on the aforementioned Excel sheet. We will also need a few bags of coal, which I will pick up on Saturday. There shouldn’t be too many shared expenses like this, and we can sort them out with a Tricount at the end of the weekend.
We will need a lot of water, to wash hands and stay hydrated. I have a couple of 10 litre containers, and hopefully others have something like this as well. They will be heavy, so ideally this is also the sort of thing that we can get to the site on the Saturday with a car.
For the food and drink, everyone should bring something to put on the BBQ, something to drink, and something extra (e.g. salad, bread, dips). It should become clear from the Excel sheet if we have any holes in the culinary planning. Obviously bring things you like to eat and drink, but also to share, and please keep in mind that there are plenty of vegetarians in the group, a couple of gluten-frees and the odd vegan
I have a camping cool box that we can fill with ice to keep drinks cold… it would be good to have a few more. Once again, you can indicate if you have something like this on the Excel sheet that I keep threatening to post a link for, but am not quite emotionally ready to do.
I’m not a massive fan of paper plates and plastic cups, so my suggestion is that you bring a plate, knife, fork and glass/cup for each member of your household who will be there.
For the toilet situation, the cost of a portable one is out of proportion to our need. I agree with Lee and Chantale that we ask one of the local bars to use their toilet and offer them 50 euros for the day. That’s less than 2.50 per person, and I think is a reasonable amount for both sides. Feel free to disagree below.
Finally, the weather forecast looks reasonable for the 24th, but obviously we’ll have to be realistic if that changes in a negative way
I think that’s everything for now. I won’t have internet connection over the weekend, so I will reconnect with this thread on Monday and move forward from there…
