Coupling economic issues with SF literature: building blocks for Econ-SF seminar in Istanbul

Okay, i defer to you on the economic literature understanding, but i still think it is weird to say:

We are dealing with pairs of ideas -
pair
pair
single item.

It scans odd to me. It’s semantics for sure, but it sits badly in my mind.

Aha, I get it now. Misunderstanding.

Each pair has a component from economics, a concept or cluster of concepts, and a component from SF, one or more pieces of work. So:

  • First pair. From economics: Innovation / intellectual property rights theory. From SF: Distraction, Autonomous, Makers
  • Second pair. From economics: reputation / gift economies (built starting with neoclassical general equilibrium theory and working out the differences when you use devices other than markets to coordinate economic activity). From SF: Walkaway, Distraction, Daemon, The Dispossessed.
  • Third pair. From economics: automation and labor substitution (starts with Ricardo, then Marx, Schumpeter, empirical data…). From SF: Accelerando, The peripheral, others…

Is it clearer?

Much clearer, thanks Alberto

Not sure if this is a good find, but these guys are organising a similar conference
