Meetup group "Cohousing in Brussels"

this is what is called a vendor “lock in” if you stop paying we destroy your group. and… you can export a .csv with the names of the members of your group but not their email. so basically you are locked in. you can’t continue your community building efforts outside meetup. this is quite un_cool

Thanks @manuelpueyo. I agree with you on Meetup. Making compromises is sometimes needed though, as we are doing with Facebook.

@joannes, it’s been two weeks that this question is pending, with 35 euro per month flowing away. Would it please be possible to get a reply to my question above? TIA!

Without pay subscription, we can still post 2 events per month btw.

just to answer you on this point. if you have an standard organizer subscription(paying). you can not go down to a free account. they destroy your group.

if you start a new group from scratch

“” If this is your first time starting an Organizer account on Meetup and you have never had an organizer subscription in the past, Meetup offers a free plan for first-time organizers called Meetup Starter. This option is designed for new organizers who want to test the platform before committing to a paid subscription.“”

@Lee To avoid keeping you waiting longer, based on Maria’s feedback on the registration data and Manuel’s feedback, Team External thinks that Meetup subscription should be cancelled, Maria will follow up shortly with the data to confirm.

Yes, I intended to do this tonight, but the evening turned out more difficult than expected. Will do so before Sunday.

Not wanting to complicate matters, so please don’t hesitate to delete the group.

If someone would feel inspired though, I just saw that there are quite some groups in Brussels who will be participating to the speeddate at the Samenhuizen Trefdag, and also that Volta XL is still using the group.

Extract from the Samenhuizen Trefdag:
The Reef (Jette), The Chocolate Factory (Schaarbeek), Brasserie Aerts (Sint-Joost-ten-Node), Charel & Co (Strombeek) en La Chocolaterie (Elsene)
Samenhuizen Trefdag 2025 – Vier 25 jaar Samenhuizen met ons! | Samenhuizen

So in the event that someone feels inspired to offer other groups to take over this group (111 members as of today), that could be an option. But as I said, equally fine with me to take it the simple way.

  1. Volta will let us know whether they’d like to take over the account by this Friday 14/11.

@Lee - Could you help with the question below from Julius - email on Proton " MeetUp Account":

Could you check if there is a 6 month subscription for 99€ available, please?
All I can find is „from x€ and nothing specific. Maybe because I am not administrator of the group.

  1. FYI, I am uable to see the payment details, i was hoping to download them to make the reimboursemnt process easier later on for Lee. Same goes to canceling subscription - as a co-organisor, there is no button for me to cancel it. I’ll wait for Volta’s decision and inform Lee.

  2. @Odile I exported the contact list - not useful with a lot of pseudonym.

  3. I posted on DISCUSSION and I sent a private message to all members. Note to self: ask Odile to post the "exist message " - to be published next Thursday - my account name "Chinese tea with Wenwei " makes it confusing…+ a really short subject line

The Reef’s login details are the Protonmail, so I don’t have any information that other people don’t have access too. Could you please get back to him yourself?

In the meanwhile I’ll try to contact Sabrine from Samenhuizen tomorrow.

Oh yes, of course. I’ ve had a look - it seems straighforward to change email adress and payment details. I’ll get back to Jonas !

@Odile I have canceled the organiser subscription on 21/11, however we can still post up to 2 events using this group. Will it be possible for you to continue posting about our info session on Meet Up ?

@Lee FYI. For reimbursement, you can find the bills on the platform.

Thank you all !

Thank you for letting me know Wenwei and for cancelling the organiser’s subscription .
It’s good to know that I can still post our info sessions on Meet Up (who knows… someone might still register using that platform :crossed_fingers:). So, I’ll continue posting them there whenever there’ll be a new session or event.

Just for the record, our cohousing Meetup group has been erased, as expected.
