New European Citizens Initiative on the right to housing

There is a brand new European Citizens Initiative (ECI) to push for housing as a human right. They are collecting signatures as of yesterday.

The coalition behind it (around 100 organizations) includes, in Brussels, the Bouwmeester/Mâitre Architecte; Community Land Trust Brussels
and the Rassemblement Bruxellois pour le Droit à l’Habitat (I had not heard of this one).

So, what can we do with this? Individually, we can sign the petition here: European Citizens' Initiative.

As a group, we can consider supporting it. The website contains a beautiful, mournful video (recommended!) and an invitation to organize and support the ECI and the idea. It provides plenty of resources: flyers, stickers, talking points, etc. For example, I know @Lee has in mind a gathering for people who are thinking about starting a cohousing, and we could frame as a way to contribute to your own “right to housing”. I think the cohousing movement makes much more sense as part of a broader rethinking of housing – and, in fact, of the economy as a whole.

Maybe something for @reef-external to think about.
