A manual for Coral Reef's board?

As we prepare to renew the board of Coral Reef, it could make sense to try and document the processes the current (and first) board has developed in the two years since incorporation. As a member of the board myself, I find this team very efficient, producing a lot of output with a manageable amount of effort. This efficiency is worth keeping in the next board, and documenting the process might make the life of new board members easier.

I propose this as a (voluntary!) task for FMs on the leadership track. The reasoning is that

  1. Describing the working methods of the boards to others is the best way to understand it.
  2. It is a “modular” task, that can be broken down in subtasks that will only take 30 minutes or so to complete.

Examples of subtasks, that could become sections in a manual, are:

  • How meetings are run (this is almost straight up sociocracy).
  • Long-lived workstreams (the core team meeting with the architects, Richard being focal point for the notary, myself for financial information…)
  • Organizing GAs with “pre-cooked” minutes.
  • Digitally signed agreements to pay where board members take up formal shared responsibility for outpayments from the company’s bank account.

Apart from conducting meetings, the rest is basically undocumented: well understood within the board, but not really explained anywhere that I can recall.

@GaultierDWM , @Wenwei , is any of this something you would be interested in?

Works for me Alberto!

I will of course need your input to write something useful.

Let’s pick this up after next week’s accounting session
