It was my intention to take the lead on organising an event on the site during the weekend of 21-22 June. However, I’ve just realised that I will need to take a break from the Reef for the last two weeks of June, as I have to empty a 3-story house with a 3-room basement that has been a colocation for 20 years by the end of the month
The reason for choosing this weekend is that we have a public presentation at Brutopia on 10 June, as well as another one currently being organised in conjunction with Samenhuizen on 3 July. So it would be good to do something in the middle of that period. It’s also something that might be better to do before many people go away on holiday in July and August. Wouldn’t matter whether it was the Saturday or the Sunday (tagging @Lee re availability).
The way I pictured it was a lunchtime BBQ for Exploring, Associate and Full Members, and then a public presentation mid afternoon. There wouldn’t be any slides, but we could get the maquette from the architects, and print a few things out. We could set up a bar and have a games area for the kids
As I won’t be able to be a part of this myself, I’m wondering if someone would like to take it on. Maybe a helping circle with someone from @reef-external, someone from @reef-recruitment and someone from @reef-communitylife…
If no-one has the capacity for this, I suggest that we do an online presentation around that time, and I will organise something at the site mid July and/or mid August for whoever is around, both in terms of current and potential members…
So obvs I’m not going to be able to take that on for team comm-life (being the partner of Chris also living in the aforementioned house, for those who don’t know ) … Would have loved to though, I think it can be really lovely and a nice close before summer.
Great initiative. I am happy to help the day itself, but I won’t be able to organize, since I will be away for two weeks right before.
*editing my post: After reflecting on it, I wonder if it is a good timing if we target families with children, because that is the exam period, right? Would it not be better then to do this at the end of August?
I’m not sure I see how it would work to integrate a public presentation, without slides and with people coming in, going out and wondering around. I would personally leave it out, and just schedule one online. But that’s just me of course.
I use ‘presentation’ here loosely. It could be a site tour with an accompanying talk at a certain point in the afternoon. Or even a couple of them. The idea is not to replicate what we would normally do in a presentation, but to generate some interest in a different way as a first connection. We could have an online presentation early the following week, which they would be channeled towards.
I’m not attached to it, particularly as I won’t be involved on the day, and as yet there isn’t anyone to organise. Here’s how I see our options, together with potential organisers:
BBQ for Reeflings only // organisation: Community Life or volunteer
BBQ for Reeflings + tour/talk (1 or 2) // organisation: R&O, External, Community Life and Lee
BBQ for Reeflings + meet the neighbours // organisation: External and Community Life
If none of the above happen, or even if something does, I’m happy to take the lead on organising something in August…
