This text is for circulation in academic environments. The idea is to stimulate students or researchers working on issues correlated with Matera’s challenges to do empirical work in Matera itself, using the unMonastery as a home base and interface with the city.

The city of Matera hosts a project of residencies for hackers and social innovators called the unMonastery. unMonasterians are to live and work together as they look for solutions to some of the challenges the city is facing. The unMonastery is interested in solutions oriented to decentralization, co-design and co-delivery, including of services that are public in nature. Any student or researcher in any discipline interested in taking on one of those challenges can apply for a residency (minimum one month in the February-May 2014 period). The unMonastery offers travel, bed, board and an interface to the city’s institutions and to the citizen themselves.

La città di Matera ospita un progetto di residenze per hackers e innovatori sociali che si chiama unMonastery. Gli unMonasterians vivranno e lavoreranno insieme per cercare soluzioni ad alcuni problemi che la città. unMonastery è interessato a cercare soluzioni basate sulla decentralizzazione, e possibilimente sulla co-progettazione e co-produzione, anche di servizi pubblici. Studenti/studentesse o ricercatori/trici in qualunque disciplina interessati ad affrontare una di queste sfide (per esempio facendo una tesi), possono fare domanda di residenza (minimo un mese nel periodo febbraio-maggio 2014). unMonastery offre viaggio, vitto, alloggio, e accesso alle istituzioni locali e ai cittadini stessi.
