There is a mention of cooperative housing in Anuna De Wever’s and Lena Hartog’s documentary “The Cost of Growth” (recommended). It’s not co-housing per se, but quite similar to us decision-making processes and values. Also, like us, it’s taking a long time to build!
De Wever and Hertog, who are both climate activists, use the cooperative housing story to reflect that “we activists can be very focused on bringing down the system, but it is also important to build parts of a new system, and show that they work”. Made me proud.
The documentary itself is very well made, with great stories and top-notch experts (Jason Hickel in particular). I was already very much in that “we need to rebuild the economy from the ground up” vibe, and I got even more motivated after seeing it.

That sounds like a very interesting doc, thanks for sharing! Hopefully is screens in Bx in the future and/or becomes available on a streaming platform so we can watch it too!
It does not have a proper distribution. On the website there is a call for anyone interested to organize a screening. If we were already in The Reef, we would organize one ourselves! It’s the kind of thing I cannot wait to do.

thank you for sharing, Alberto, I am very intrigued. We could maybe already organise a screening in Belgium, it might also help with recruitment.

I should have been clearer: I know this because Tamara and I did indeed go to a screening in Brussels, only a few weeks ago. It took place at Cinema RITCS in Rue Dansaert, and had been organized by a local association who rented the cinema or something. It went well, full house.
