Commons Hub's event invitation: Communities of Brussels Unite

Hello @reeflings

Commons Hub is organising an event below, and asks if any of us is interested in joining. For your info, Manuel and I are members at Commons Hub.

We are done waiting for others to create the democracy we want for Brussels. Real democracy is happening in the diverse communities that live in Brussels. Resilience and connections lives in these communities. They are the heart of Brussels.

So we invite you

:point_right:t3: Communities of Brussels, UNITE.

Let’s explore other ways to manage our commons resources and to support each other.

The meetup will be lead by experienced facilitators, holding space for awareness, radical presence, embodiment of democratic values, growing trust and confidence, with the ambition to give everyone a choice to belong to this movement.

Schedule

18:00 Welcome & shared food
18:15 Introduction: origins, goals, and near-future wishes
18:40 Get-to-know-each-other collective activity
19:30 Affinity groups around 4 themes (citizen democracy, commons, culture & resilience, deconstructing supremacy)
20:15 Sharing outcomes from affinity groups
20:45 Networking & local action planning
21:20 Collective closing & next steps
21:30 Shared clean-up

Why: We no longer wait for politics to deliver democracy—we reclaim it as a shared value rooted in dignity, equity, and collective responsibility. By organizing differently, we aim to build resilient, interconnected communities capable of caring for our common resources, addressing conflict, and shaping a just future together in Brussels and beyond.

Who: This gathering brings together people who care deeply about Brussels and are committed to collective dignity, growth, and community life. Hosted by the Commons Hub, a shared house for communities and commons - it is open to all citizens—residents, facilitators, community builders, and mandate holders—who want to actively contribute to democratic cultures and the commons.

What: On 09/01, we host a foundational gathering to connect people and communities, share food and stories, and identify common challenges, needs, and resources. The evening will spark local actions, future events, and ongoing collaboration to strengthen Brussels through collective action and mutual support.
