My name is Luis de Miranda and I am a philosopher based in Stockholm, Sweden, and doing research at the Örebro University. Together with Prof. Alessandro Saffiotti, an AI and Robotics Exert, we are initiating CREA, a cross-disciplinary research hub around the notion of Anticipation.
This project, based at the University of Örebro, in partnership with Unesco’s Chair in Anticipatory Systems, bridges the humanities and computer science to examine how we could develop a model for anticipation that would be more sustainable and holistic than current models. In other words, we want to see how we can use data and AI-Humanities for more creative, participative or empowering forms of anticipation and co-creation.
Since we are at the very early stage of the project, which will imply major funding applications in 2019, we are now starting to identify possible and meaningful partners for collaboration. I’d be happy to hear from Edgeryders and discuss potential collaboration.
This sounds fantastic and certainly something I’d like to discuss further with you in terms of collaboration. As background, I head up development of the Edgeryders Research Network and also happen to have personal research interests in what you’re doing.
I suggest we host a zoom VoIP and any other Edgeryders interested in joining can do so.
Excellent, Anique, your profile sounds fascinating too. Happy to do what you suggest. On a footnote, my partner Alessandro Saffiotti has a good record in obtaining EU funding, so we have that in common (I will invite him here). Yes, I am in close contact with Hugi. Is next week a good time? say the 13th in the afternoon?
Super. Yes, I think the key will be to find a Horizon2020 (or Horizon Europe) call and symbiotic partners that fit our combined research… but then again I’m also inclined to explore something small first, and indeed our explorations into Economic Science Fiction with @alberto@alex_levene@mariacoenen could offer just the platform.
Let’s talk more next week. Tuesday afternoon I’m only available 16:30 CET. Works for you?
And again, anyone else following and interested please feel free to join. I’ll post the public zoom link once we finalise the time.
Would that still be Riel Miller? We did some work for UNESCO in this area (with @nadia in the lead). He was also on Edgeryders: his account is still there, in fact.
Hi Alberto, I am also talking with Riel Miller. For the moment our main contact is Roberto Poli. Roberto Poli is Unesco Chair in Anticipatory Studies, and we started a promising dialogue with him. We will visit him in April in Italy (Trento) and he will visit us in June at our first conference. It would be nice to have a Edgeryders panel at the conference too.
With Riel Miller, yes, we are in contact too and exploring the possibility of organising a Futures Literacy Lab here with him in October 2019. Here again why not in parternship with Edgeryders? There is a lot of work to do to reinvent Swedish education and I expect that education will be one of the effectual streams of CREA.
So @hugi will drive this from our end as Edgeryders Stockholm, with involvement by @alberto and myself based on Research Network and personal research interests.
Idea is that:
Edgeryders will de a panel at the conference in June (pending conference committee)
In the meantime we will use a series of proposals to explore thinking together on anticipatory systems; with the first one needing to be finalised in January (apologies @LuisDeMiranda I didn’t catch the long family name of the foundation)
We will share relevant references and resources as discussed.
@hugi perhaps worth creating a thread in the Research Network for us to continue to dialogue around this.
Hi Luis, thanks for the patience! I’d love to keep up the momentum around this collaboration.
In terms of things to share, I’m trying to recollect what I mentioned. The Whiteheadian Laboratory was one - see the website here. Do you recall any of the others? I noted some things down in the chat and asked @alberto and/or @hugi to download it - have either you got it perchance?
Meanwhile, you mentioned the application deadline for that proposal in January - perhaps it an idea to schedule a session to work on it?
Thanks. Interesting link about the Whiteheadian Lab, they seem pretty Deleuzian too by the names I recognized. I am not sure I saw anything uploaded for me. I am meeting @hugi this Monday to discuss this. I did send him a few documents. Regarding the project, I am at a point where I feel I have all the ingredients but not a clear strategy about what meal to cook. This will determine the best calls to go for, among various options. I expect to have a breakthrough before 2019 as I am heading to the South for a change of atmosphere. So perhaps we can schedule a session for early January. Or feel welcome can join Hugi and myself this Monday.
Hi again, I had my breakthrough moment this morning, earlier than expected and also news on a major partnership. Horizon of the call that could involve Edgeryders is 3 months. We can discuss that with @Hugi on Monday. For institutional reasons, I need to keep the rest of the conversation confidential for a while. My mail is crealectics@gmail.com
Cheers,
Luis
