Free introduction to NVC with David Weinstock on 16 July at 7 pm

One of my teachers is offering a short online introduction to his somatic approach to NVC. There is no web link, so if you are interested please have a look at the Protonmail inbox, where you will find the email with the link where you can register.

In essence David’s approach is very much focused on coming home into our bodies, and listening to ourselves and other with all of our soul. David lives in an intentional community since more than 30 years, so he doesn’t need two words to empathise with the challenges we are facing. A great teacher and I warmly recommend it.

Here’s the text from his email:

Dear friends around the world,

From early in my life, I carried a deep curiosity about human beings: how are we the same, and how are we different? As I traveled, listened, practiced, and met people across cultures, languages, communities, and ways of life, this question kept following me and has become one of the central inquiries of my life. In Nonviolent Communication, I found a profound map for this inquiry: our needs reveal the place we share, while our strategies reveal the many different paths we take to care for life.

Somatic Consensus has grown from this long inquiry. It is my contribution to the art and discipline of Nonviolent Communication — a somatic entry into whole self listening and whole self communication. It invites us to listen not only with our minds or our words, but with breath, posture, movement, sensation, emotion, imagination, memory, and heart. In this way, NVC becomes something we practice with the whole of who we are. We learn to listen beneath the surface of agreement and disagreement, beneath culture and habit, beneath reaction and defense, into the living needs that connect us.

My hope is that this work continues to serve our global learning community by helping us appreciate both our shared humanity and the many beautiful, painful, and particular ways we enter this circle of life. We are shaped by our histories, our cultures, our families, our wounds, our longings, and what we repeatedly practice. And we can also be reshaped. When we practice listening deeply, speaking from the heart, and acting from what we most care about, we become more able to meet difference without losing connection. This, for me, is at the heart of Becoming What You Need and at the heart of Somatic Consensus.
