Governance document: first draft

Hello @reeflings,

I finished a first draft of the Governance document and saved it on The Reef’s common drive. Without the annexes it’s about 15 pages long.

The eventual purpose of the document is to set out a number of agreed processes and rules that will be used in certain situations that have a significant impact on The Reef as a community.

For the moment it covers the following items:

  • Membership
  • Decision-making
  • Working in Teams
  • Accountability
  • Conflict management

It’s important to note I think that this is more complicated than you might think. It requires a lot of studying and will probably need the input from external experts or people who have some practical expertise with this.

Nevertheless you are of course very welcome to insert any comments and edits to improve the document.

Yours,

Lee.

Dear @Lee, hello @reeflings

Malcolm and I have both read and discussed the document. I have put in edits and comments.

For our meeting on Tuesday I suggest that we discuss:

  • The status of the document and its relationship to the other foundational documents
  • The Membership process and what it requires of us as ‘founding members’
  • The definition of the teams and the assignment of us six to the teams.

See my comments in the text to understand better what I mean.

Thanks a lot for all the reading and studying you have done to produce this document. It’s impressive.

Best, Sabine
