Introduction to the Course "A Delicate Activism – An Invitation Towards a Practice that is Alive", Algarve – Portugal, 6 to 10 of February 2018

Dear friends,

The RECIFE and The Emergence Network, in collaboration with ARISE Education, are pleased and thrilled to invite you to come and join us in the course “A Delicate Activism - – An Invitation Towards a Practice that is Alive”, that we are hosting in the south of Portugal, from the 6th to the 10th of February 2018.

This course will be facilitated by The Proteus Initiative amazing team composed of Allan Kaplan and Sue Davidoff, who are coming from South Africa to share with us their deep and lively approach to community development, change processes and activism in general.

We invite you to read the article “A Delicate Activism” to investigate what this course is inviting you to explore and sense if it resonates with you.

The instrumental nature of much contemporary social activism has become a contributing factor to – rather than a resolution of – the rapid and escalating social and ecological crises that beset our world. Our urgency to achieve change often unfolds a calculative, strategic mindset; results, rather than process, become primary. Yet a closer look at how life actually lives reveals that means are the ends that we arrive at – that our points of departure foretell our places of arrival.

The approach introduced in these five days offers the possibility to understand and work with radically different, more appropriate, more organic approaches to social and ecological process and practice. To work in ways that are respectful of the complexity and true nature of our challenges. Encountering the problems we face in the world today requires the exercise of a responsive creativity premised on our own transformation in the process of engagement. This, we suggest, is built through the disciplined practice of observation as it enters the living processes through which life on earth unfolds. These five days introduce a grounded, aware, engaged and imaginative interpersonal practice.

Hi @silvamago and welcome. This is considered plain advertising (and subject to being marked as spam) unless you tell us more about yourself? Edgeryders is a group of individuals from all over sharing aspirations and personal experiences, so hopefully you can find a more personalized introduction.
Otherwise, looking forward to meet you.

Hello dear Noemi,

Sorry for what looked like a plain advertising.

I just connected with Edgeryders and wanted to share a course I’m hosting
that brings to Europe two people with whom I believe we can learn much
about being change agents in living systems.

I’m not advertising this course just for the sake of having participants.
The idea is to link people from different networks and spaces where the
seeds of the future are being planted. Networks like Global Ecovillage
Network, The Transition Network, ECOLISE, Ecoversities, The Emergence
Networ, Edgeryders, among others.
The idea is that this course is the starting point to develop an informal
network of Artists of the Invisible in Europe. If you find the time to have
a look at the article “A Delicate Activism
http://socialself.org/Articles/adelicate.aspx” you will get a closer
feeling to what I’m talking about.

We have very interesting people already registered like for instance
lecturers from Schumacher college.

I’m a educational activist working at the intersection between several
structural fields such as education (deschooling and other ways of knowing
and learning), economics (ethical finances, gift economy and collaborative
economy), culture (Cultural Evolution Society, arts for social change),
politics (Participative Democracy and Sociocracy 2.0) and the environment
(Permaculture, Ecovillages, regeneration) and I host individual and group
processes through dragon dreaming, art of hosting, NVC, Theory U among
others.

Please let me know in what ways you think I can better participate in this
space.

With much appreciation,

Alegria!

Thanks, understood… will check out the links - well some
I think we have common friends - Adela, Aurelian and others in Ecolise and these networks you mention.
I would love to get to Portugal sometime soon and spend more time.

Unfortunately the price is way to high for me.
We try to make events accessible to community members - our own Festival two weeks ago made it possible for people without financial resources to contribute in kind… Let me know if there is an opportunity like this.
Otherwise, good luck anyway!
