Large difference between web analytics as measured by Google Analytics and Discourse. Why?

Thanks to @paycoupons for getting Google Analytics back up and running.

It is interesting to compare GA’s numbers with those of the website’s internal analytics. There is a large difference. Anyone has any idea why?

Yesterday:

  • Users: GA: 59; ER: (“user visits, I think it means visits by registered users, that GA ignores”): 33
  • Sessions (visits to the site): GA: 128; ER: not available
  • Pageviews: GA: 1,075; ER: 7.8K

This is because Discourse and Google Analytics track pageviews differently. Check out this thread for the details.

I tested navigating between pages in Discourse and verified that the clicks appear in the GA real-time view.
