Based behind the city hall in the centre of Vienna lies Metalab, an open space for technical and creative projects. Jointly run by its members and a board of directors who represent them; Metalab is an independent place where creative minds from all ages and a broad disciplines, from communication technology to new media, meet to share knowledge and realise innovative projects. The members organise regular free and publicly open events and workshops, often presenting new technologies, one example being ‘Metaday’ which takes place the first Friday of every month. It is entirely funded by member contributions and receives sponsorship from City of Vienna to purchase equipment, develop the space and larger projects.
