Reeflings day - Saturday 14/09

Hi there @reef-communitylife!

So! Back in business

With the weekend get-away getting canceled, we need to organise something for a day activity next Saturday.

The original idea with the weekend was to make space for both hanging out together in a relaxed way, as well as connecting in a more meaningful way.

Several options have been mentioned for this:

  • hanging out: hike, sharing a meal/sitting at mona or Atelier 340.
  • connect: NVC workshop, values and motivation sharing
Do you have any alternative suggestions?

At the moment the weather forecast says fine but not warm (17°C max). So I think we can plan an outdoor activity, but we will also need an indoor hanging space, where we can also potentially have a group chat/workshop.
There are a few options available in this post (https://edgeryders.eu/t/neighborhood-mapping-wiki/20192) like CBO, ploef, station, etc… But I’m not sure whether we can find one that is not too expensive. Maybe @reef-external can answer that?
It would be ideal to be somewhere in Jette, but otherwise another possibility is maybe Nahman?? @joannes , could that be an option?
And I don’t know if ten weyngaert is an option or if that’s too short notice? @ChrisM , @Dave_behave ?

As for a walk, I think we could imagine getting out of Brussels a bit, but maybe not too far. And maybe not for too long like max 2-3h?
Anybody with ideas or keen to look into a place to go for a hike/walk not too far from the city centre? Or shall we ask for help on this?
I wonder if maybe not everybody is going to be up for a bigish walk, so maybe we should have a more chilled option as well.
One option to reconcile both is maybe the promenade verte, where people can stop at different points and head toward public transport… But that’s not super exotic.

Let me know your thoughts!

I am really keen on an NVC practice session, because I enjoy the moments of connection they create. Happy to organise one at my place in Saturday morning, opening up for a potluck lunch for those who would like to join later.

There are many walks to do in and around Brussels. There is the Château de la Hulpe (where the museum of Folon is), there are also a few other ones like:

NVC workshop sounds interesting as well. It has been a long time I haven’t attended one .

That sounds like fun and then after the lunch there’d still be time for a couple of hours hiking

I would also love to spend time outside, now that the weather is still good to go hiking. We could combine it with a NVIC training in the morning. For hiking, we can easily get to Bois de la Cambre from where Lie is living, on foot, so maybe we could go there?

Just an idea: From Saint-Gilles - Sint-Gillis to Boitsfort - Bosvoorde | hike | Komoot

Thanks for the input guys! It’s coming out nicely!

Next thing to organise is potluck!
I’m gonna do it minimal effort style, as I think we only need to make sure we don’t end up with 9 cakes (and I’m gonna go there, without bubbles…). Let’s say everybody can bring something to drink if they’d like (not compulsory to bring bubbles ), but for sure something to eat.
So here comes the poll!

  • I’ll bring savoury
  • I’ll bring sweet
  • I’ll bring bubbles as well

I forgot to tag all @reeflings on this!
A little sum-up:
On Saturday 14/09 we will meet at Lie in the morning for a NVC practice, then we’ll share a potluck and probably head out for a walk for a couple of hours.
For the potluck details, please see my post above

And not sure it’s necessary to say, but I also didn’t mention that of course everyone is free to join for any part of the day they wish, not necessarily the whole day!

@Lee : are you gonna share the event with the people who will be there at the presentation? I feel the morning should be reeflings only, but it might be ok for them to join in the afternoon?

Hi @Sarah,

After a presentation the first step is to fill in the survey, for which people get one week. In that first week we rarely engage with the future new Reeflings, and I would propose to keep it this way.

There seems to be a lot of desire for a day to connect with the current Reeflings, so my recommendation would be to use this Saturday just for that. There will be plenty of opportunities later on to engage with the newlings.

For the potluck I would really like it if no food will have to be thrown away (which sadly has happened quite often). Given that I don’t eat gluten, eggs, milk or cheese my request is to please make sure that the leftovers can be wrapped or packaged and taken home by somebody. Thanks a lot for your undestanding.

In terms of timing I propose that the NVC practice session starts at 10:30 sharp (doors open at 10:00), and that we try to stop towards 12:45. If you only come for the potluck, I’d be grateful if you would not come too much earlier, so that we can close the workshop without interruption.

Sounds like a wonderful and tasty plan. We will be celebrating our kids birthdays this weekend, but love to join another time!

For those who only join for the walk (and not the NVC training and/or potluck beforehand), let’s meet at Lie’s at 03:00 pm and go on foot to Bois de la Cambre from there.

I’ll be joining in the morning, between 10am and 10:30

Looking forward to it!
