Hi both,
Back in January, @Wenwei, through @daniellobb, had asked me about producing new renderings for the project. I replied but hadn’t heard back. Probably because I didn’t see the correct tread on Edgery for it.
Happy to give my input and continue this conversation here.
My first feedback is that I think those renderings are lovely.
But that’s personal taste I suppose. I do know that they resonnated with me when we first got to know the project. They also are the only drawings I saw that day that communicated that red brick will be used on the facades, which I think is quite attractive for a lot of people, especially compared to Brutopia’s white aluminium facade.
I’m surprised that producing new renderings sounds like it is part of the scope of S+F’s contract. I know my standard services don’t include that and we would charge it as added services. But renderings aren’t required for building permit applications in the USA. I’m unsure what is required in Bruxelles.
In previous communication, I had understood that the desire was to have renderings with a more “commercial” / realistic look, similar to this: https://stekkeplusfraas.be/projets/archiducs-watermael/
This type of rendering is quite labor intensive (it takes me about 1,000€ in billable time to produce). I know of some American companies who send their drawings to China to create renderings at a lower cost. So I imagine that would probably be very cost effective, especially since it sounded like @Wenwei might know people.
More illustrative or cartoon-style renderings, like the ones we currently have are generally less expensive.
But “hand sketches” similar to the one bellow are a lot faster to produce and I would be happy to volunteer my time to make one or update the ones we already have with the new design.
In any case, we need the architects to finish the design to be able to produce drawings representing it. My understanding is that they are still working on the plans, and haven’t started to design the facades yet (please correct me if I’m wrong).
I’m meeting with Francois on Friday to discuss our unit layout. I’ll ask him where they are at and what program they use. If they use a BIM program (aka work in 3D instead of 2D), that would make producing “hand” drawings a lot faster and easier.
