Science Fiction Economics Bookclub: "The Lost Cause" by Cory Doctorow

The Science Fiction Economics Club strikes back. This time, we will be looking at the economics of Cory Doctorow’s fascinating Green New Deal world. As always with economically inclined science fiction authors, we will attempt to glean Cory’s economic insights based on the reading of a novel, rather than an economics paper: The Lost Cause. The novel is set in a near-future world that is finally taking climate change and social justice seriously, though a lot of people really disagree with that and the planetary boundaries are still way breached. You can think of it as a best-case scenario: by no means an utopia, but a world where we have a fighting chance to pass the civilizational make-or-break test. So what does the economy of such a world look like?

Let’s find out. Like previous book calls, this is going to be a virtual gathering. The wonderful Dr. Joffa Applegate (@zazizoma here) and myself will be your hosts. To avoid Zoom-bombing, you will receive the link to the call after registration. Registration link here.

Ping @Worldbuilders! And of course @yudhanjaya and @Nic010 .
