In the PM of 20/04 we talked about the solar protection we will need to foresee for the units most exposed to the sun.
The architects proposed as cheap solution a kind of curtains on the outside of the building, that you need to open and close manually, so very low tech.
Some people had some questions about how that looks and whether it’s a dense black curtain which would create pure darkness in the unit.
I took some pictures going to the architects today. And i don’t know if it’s clear on the picture, but they allow still some light through. On the first image you can still see the metal facade through the curtain.
These are things we can look into during the call for tenders stage. We can even ask for different options (curtains, automated, non-automated) and then everybody can choose for themselves.
No, i just went to see the architects, but I guess you can ask?
I have - in my room in a low energy house- also an exterior solar protection on my Velux’s. From what I see on the picture, it looks like a very similar material, letting in the same degree of light i guess.
In my room i have 2 V-luxes, one on the south-west side, and one on the north-east side, so basically sun all day during heat waves and I must say these protections are magical. If you want my advice (not being an expert on this): start with this low tech curtains and evaluate.
Again, feel free to visit my house if you want to experience things (which might not be exactly under the same conditions than your unit in The Reef). (The offer stands for all reeflings)
