Hi @reeflings !
This is the opening post of Team Garden
This is not a team that will take a lot of priority of the next couple of years, but there will be times when those of us that are excited about the potential garden space of the Reef can come together and think ahead. One of these times is upon us now, with a need to think well about how much to include in the budget during the avant-project stage.
I don’t think it is controversial to say that this is an area of the project where we will try and keep the costs to a minimum, relying on our own labour and resourcefulness to create a space that is both beautiful and fulfils the many functions that we envision. There have already been offers of donated plants and trees, and I know that we already have a good selection of tools between us. But there will be paths to build and some tools to buy, and having a clear idea now about the costs of these, and thus budget for them, will save us a lot of precious decision-making time in the future. Having said that, there is no need at this point to provide a comprehensive budget that will be set in stone. But it is important to have an overall figure that is fairly close to what we expect will be needed.
Time is of the essence! There is a plenary meeting on 5 May, and the idea is to have a proposal ready to post on Edgeryders at least a couple of days beforehand. I’m open to suggestions about the timeline, but I imagine a meeting of interested parties early this week, followed by some individual research, and then a brief collaborative proposal formation, either via a meeting or an online document, to be completed by Saturday.
So who would like to be a part of this process, and when are you available to meet on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday?
