The first thing is: is the pitch good enough, at least for now? If it is not, then I have to keep working on it. If it is, then @chantal_vanoeteren and I are going to be working on two fronts.
Chantal herself should move straight into stakeholder mapping. The deliverable is a document outlining who the most promising actors for possible partnerships are. For each of them, we should have an idea of what they want, and therefore how we can approach them (if we do).
Me: spreadsheet time. But I am going to do it very bluntly, because all numbers in it depend dramatically on the building, so no point investing too much time on it.
Also me: start a platform discussion about governance models. Maybe ping Chris Cook and Patrick. Eventually, allocate a bit of money to contracting a lawyer in Belgium that can put the governance model we choose into articles of association for a company.
Makes sense, but please keep in mind to project manage that part as well, Mrs. Project Manager I just collected promising places to visit and will join the journeys on request of Alberto, but not organize when we go where.
Agreed So, let me know where and when and especially how much and I’ll tell you what we can do. Btw, I’m waiting for C-KIC answer about a certain webinar on financial reporting and admin stuff, so I keep you updated with what I’ll learn!
Hi @matthias : I’m curious if you’ve done some thinking about the technical sprint and can confirm a date. This event also needs to be organised, or have a call for community experts.
One option is to have it around our 3rd workshop on the 27-28th of November, at The Reef as we discussed. I could also include it in the sign up form to collect interest. I’m not sure how you want to organise it, so let me know if i can help?
We could launch a placeholder event when we launch the workshops, and over time you can post more detailed calls for participation on the platform to surface more people. Works?
Ok so I can see that on the site visit’s end no one is making the first step in deciding. I would like to visit Calafou, at least see one space this year. @Matthias: can you help by sending an email to them and asking if we can go? Ideally in October, if you guys have some time (I can do 1-7 or 23-27), or November before the festival (8-20 nov).
If any of the dates work for you and @Alberto, we’re good. But we need to agree and make contact, and only then Ilaria can help with planning the logistics.
This is funny, how did I get myself into organizing a workshop that I planned to be absent from? But since my plans on being absent in Nepal did not work either, I will be there and can also do some preparations work. But things really can’t go on like that … which is a topic for a different occasion.
So, for the date. A combination with that third community workshop sounds really good to me. I see that the third community workshop will be 2019-11-28 16:00 - 21:00 in Metrolab. That seems to imply it’s not inside a candidate building.
In that case, it seems better to hold the technical sprint 1-2 days before that third workshop, because then we can showcase some of the work we did there during the community workshop. Which helps with motivation in the technical sprint, and hopefully contributes something interesting to the community workshop.
Does that make sense? If so, I’d propose (Mon) 2019-11-25 for the workshop, in the evening, at the Reef. So in case we hit on something really interesting and need more time to finish it, there are a few more evenings before the community workshop where we could meet again.
Is anything else planned for that day at The Reef?
Completely hear you and distinctly remember the conversation between me, you and Alberto where you held your ground, so to speak. But because this falls under WP3 which you lead, I was wondering if you can guide it, even if only saying: guys, we need to start prepare it because we’re two months ahead. or guys, we need to hire someone. or, at least the date?
Otherwise, I will help with this. There is no other way but me filling in these gaps to the best I can, while supporting Ilaria in her PM role I know, gruelling, and yes, we’ll need to talk about it at length once these months are over. I have some thoughts myself.
It’s perfect! Let’s talk more about it in our next team meeting,
And I’m interested to hear them! Very off the mark effort estimations were the reason I nearly dropped all my self-employment in 2010. So I feel with you, but I can’t help Because since 2010 I only learned to estimate software project effort better, but project and personnel mgm is a completely different thing and follows other rules …
For this project, I can do the basic preparations of “my” tech sprint workshop, and be present of course, in order to not add even more to your plate. I’ll need some advice / assistance for Brussels specifics but will tell you when that becomes relevant. (I have some basic concept for that event by now and will hash that out in a few days, in writing.)
Community workshops: (Isabelle and Noemi)
Isabelle: We launched the workshops and calls.
-met someone from Uni of Rotterdam -teacher of architecture, would like students to participate in the co-design part.
-needs to focus on outreach for the events: key target is people who are considering co-living
Noemi: covers the gaps in how the project unfolds.
-contracted video making services to capture the workshops (3 deliverables: 2x1min videos after first two + 1x3min video at the end, released early December)
-contracted social media comms ahead of workshops (Filip&co.)
-contracted Manuel to help with 2 interviews and storytelling
→ new page needed on the website with Workshops description (set up by Noemi)
Technical sprint (Matthias):
Scheduled for 25 November for a limited group of participants at The Reef. Two ways to get people to attend:
pay for the expertise and lead an area of discussion/solutions mapping 2) other people might want to join because paid/ higher profile people are there
-2-3 breakout groups - recorded; that is input material
-preliminary invites go to people in the Networking Green Buildings wiki: Noemi to add others from Brussels and recommend to Matthias.
→ new topic/ website page with the sprint description
→ Matthias and Ilaria to both come to Brussels for about 2 weeks, possibly look for shared accommodation. 10th - 26th November
Graphic design for TheReef.Brussels website:
-should be finalised by 15 October + the website
Partnership building
Call on Wednesday: Go through the list and make a selection of the people who are going to be pitched; Add Municipalities
Isabelle shared knowledge on two candidate buildings. Both of them are beautiful places but they don’t belong to public authorities. Story: We want to work by example. This type of building is relatively common, better for working on them.
on Bvd. Lemmonier - residential, belongs to a real estate company. 3 floors 500sq2 with level 0 frontshop.
in Koekelberg - industrial, belongs to an NGO, former printing factory (Fr. usine), 2000sq2 -requires a lot of investment in works. Might be possible for Matt to visit it ahead of the tech sprint.
Yep. On the plus side, remember: this is “mess by design”:
What is going on is not that our normal model is unsustainable. Rather, we are flexing our muscle, trying our hand at a new way of working. I have my own preliminary findings. In general, if this does not work it does not work, we will just drop it. No big deal.
