Yo7ka Anna | A cultural and recreational day in one of the marginalized areas in Egypt

Event Description

A cultural and recreational day in one of the marginalized areas for children in El Ayat region. The event will raise the awareness of the importance of reading; for children, storytelling, crafts and yoga classes will be conducted. To make the best of the day; for parents, how to tell stories to children session will be held in parallel to engage them with the storytelling journey that we started with the kids. The day will conducted in El Ayat district in Giza Egypt; it is a marginalized area where most children are deprived of education.

The Objective the Event:
We believe that children are a key element to ensure a sustainable development of our societies and communities, we had the idea of A cultural and recreational day in one of the marginalized areas in Egypt. We believe in the power of arts and culture in the children’s development on different scales; improving the reading and social skills and knowledge of kids in a funny and attractive way makes the impact of this intervention more sustainable.

When it comes to reading/storytelling : Apart from being magical portal which takes people to other dimensions and lets them discover new realities, reading is also a practically beneficial and fundamental activity for children’s development. Other than enhancing the vocabulary and the literacy level of children, science has proven that reading and storytelling for children help:

  • Improve memory
  • Discover different aspects of the world
  • Brain exercise and development
  • Boost critical thinking skills
  • Develop empathy
  • Develop and expand language skills
  • Enhance imagination and creativity
  • Better performance in school
  • Source of entertainment
  • Develop a good self-image

This event will establish the storytelling as an important tool for children development for children, their parents and the community

Proposed Program:
Yo7ka Anna is a one day event that brings our team of storytellers and facilitators with 40 children and their parents in one of the community that most needs such events in a very fun and recreational environment. The event will be held in 4 hours; Icebreaking and games at the beginning and then yoga sessions later storytelling and craft, then debriefing and saying goodbye. At the same time 2 hours “How to tell stories” sessions will be held in parallel to the children’s activities.

We, Yo7ka Anna, are a group of people who believe in the importance of reading and books to children and use storytelling and reading activities for children to develop them into motivated readers and empower the community around them.
