First impressions after the Assembl demonstration

Does not work with dummies

@fjanss, your question is more difficult than it seems.

  • I don't think harvesting can be properly tested with dummy arguments. You can test that the software works – but I trust the developers to already have done that. But what we are trying to establish here is whether harvesting generates high value as a discussion summary while being reasonably easy. To run this test, harvesters need to work on a real discussion, and their summary has to be fed back to a real user.
  • Even if we do not erase the content from the Assembl instantiation, we (Edgeryders) cannot guarantee the Assembl team will keep the server running over the long term.
  • Even if they do keep the server running over the long term, your post will "go lost" in a dead conversation. This is bad stewardship

So, what to do? I am afraid the only solution “done right” that can be done is to post on Edgeryders instead. Then, your post/comment will be manually imported over to the Assembl server and processed there into a summary. If your content is on Edgeryders, we do take responsibility for it, and we are sure to keep the conversation about stewardship going as long as we exist.
