Greentech Festival 2023 in Berlin

GTF2023

The now fifth edition of the GREENTECH Festival took place under the motto “Mission to Net Zero” at the former Tegel Airport site in the German capital city of Berlin.

In addition to over 600 international celebrities and leaders from politics, society and business, the organizers of the event reported over 11,500 visitors, over 160 exhibitors from 20 different countries and over 180 speakers, all of whom should help promote the concept of a CO2-neutral future.

It is Europe’s largest sustainability festival, targeting all those who are interested and wish to participate in the upcoming transformation of the society with progressive futuristic ideas, networking, and knowledge transfer.

For three days, the focus was on the latest groundbreaking green technologies for a sustainable lifestyle in various areas such as food, energy, infrastructure, and mobility.

The internationally diverse program of the GREENTECH FESTIVAL featured from june, 14th till june, 16th, the GREEN AWARDS, GTF CONFERENCE, and GTF EXHIBITION.

The GREENTECH FESTIVAL has set itself the goal of inspiring as many people as possible for green ideas and technologies and also motivating them to act for a sustainable life.

The exhibition area showcased environmentally friendly technologies, services, and products to an environmentally conscious audience.

The conference presented and discussed advanced solutions and approaches.

Founded in 2019 as a combination of a technology fair, conference, and event, the Greentech Festival was initiated by former Formula 1 driver Nico Rosberg and Berlin entrepreneurs Marco Voigt and Sven Krüger (no longer involved).

Lufthansa, one of the world’s largest airlines, was also present in their former Lufthansa hangar, showcasing its progress towards becoming carbon neutral by 2050 through sustainable new aircraft and plastic waste reduction initiatives.

Other participants included an aircraft manufacturer from the Netherlands, aiming to produce fully electric light aircraft, and a Berlin-based startup focusing on hydrogen-powered air taxis.

Unfortunately, the last day was very rainy at times, so most of it took place indoors.

Additionally, major automotive manufacturers and renowned brands such as Google, Telekom, E.on, and Huawei were also in attendance.

Consideration:

Regarding my experience, the GTF took place over three days in a former Lufthansa hangar and the surrounding area of the former Tegel Airport (TXL). I had the opportunity to conduct interviews with a total of 39 individuals and had an additional conversation with speaker and Nigerian/Israeli environmental activist Sharonna Schnayder.

I attempted to secure interviews with speakers from various companies presented at the festival, but unfortunately, they all expressed regret that they were not allowed to comment without prior approval from their corporate communications departments.

On the other hand, all other interviewees from different countries were familiar with or had heard of the concept of circular economy. The only challenge was the significant noise level both inside the hall and outside. It took quite some effort to find a relatively quieter spot, but peace and quiet were scarce nonetheless.
