Guiding principles for conflict management

Hello @reef-conflict,

Unfortunately I couldn’t be there. This would have been my feedback:

  • Overall it looks great and I look forward to signing up for it.
  • I am missing maybe two elements:
    • Conflict resolution & talking to people (instead of about them). This is the text from Heartwood that I find inspiring:
“I agree to take problems and complaints to the person(s) with whom I can resolve them, at the earliest opportunity. I agree not to criticize or complain to someone who cannot do something about my complaint, and I will redirect others to do the same. I will not say behind someone’s back what I am not willing to say to their face.”

    • Feedback & impact. Here I don’t have a ready made formulation. It would need to say something like “I will not lash out at other people” and “I will be mindful about the impact of my words and behaviour on others, and I accept to be held accountable when something I did or said had an unintended impact on somebody else”. This would subscribe to the philosophy of the Piedmont Peace Project (see post about power-under) who list unacceptable behaviours in their guidelines as means to create more emotional safety. Another example is RHD Bill of Rights which can be found online.
