Hey there,

Spot the Future is Edgeryders first project in Romania, starting now and powered by a growing community of change makers in over 30 countries (more info). We’re looking for someone to help those of us in different parts of the world connect to the Bucharest social innovation scene. The position is for a lead connector or engager whose role is a combination of research/storytelling skills and willingness to learn the Edgeryders way of getting things done as a distributed team. Specifically, this person:

• is curious and proactive in finding out about interesting, relatively unknown, projects in their country from which others can learn (see the case study adventures); e.g. critical/ disruptive initiatives in the civic, artistic, social change areas, in alternative education, participatory urbanism, urban gardening, sustainable lifestyles and many more, the list is open.

• is willing to embark in a practical research adventure to make those stories known here online - through written articles, alternatively through video interviews or transcripts

• uses the Internet as a tool for online engagement (via blogging, social networking, storytelling) and helps reach more diverse people, inviting them to share their projects with the community

• is curious and wants to experiment with organising an open Spot the Future international workshop in July, fully powered by community and co-designed by community members we meet here.

• most importantly, this person we’re looking for is eager to connect with the Edgeryders global network and learn to build communities using a mix of online-offline tools that promote openness. For some of us in Edgeryders an open culture is a way of living and working (our recent story here). If you have time to browse around, have a good ol’ read that reflects many of the things we stand for as a generation.

It’s simple, everything happens here online. Create a post in the Spot the Future group in either Romanian or English (you need to be logged in on the platform). The more generous you are with your thoughts, the easier for both you and us to figure out if we’re a good match. Think of it as an opportunity to make an entrance in the community and build new connections at the same time. In your post, let us know:

• What are you currently working on that is worth investing time and energy into?

• What challenges do you come across and how do you try to solve them? Anything others here can learn from you?

• How do you think a community like Spot the Future can be useful in Romania? Do you have concrete ideas as to who to invite to share their story (3 initiatives) and how would you go about that -common friends, online channels, hosting a meetup etc?

This is a part time position, estimated at 2-4 hours a day for a little over two months, until the end of July. It is compensated financially with 1400 EUR in total from Edgeryders LbG, the not for profit social enterprise. We view these paid roles as a way to invest in people who want to make a personal investment in this community and the company that serves it - by learning new ways, promoting meaningful work as the way to the future, or building an international reputation.

Căutăm un membru fondator în comunitatea Spot the Future pentru schimbare culturală (socială, civică, powered by technology etc) - acea schimbare care nu se vede cu ochiul liber, decât dacă te uiți în direcția potrivită. Mai precis, acest fondator ar fi un conector de comunitate care:

• e pasionat de oameni și inițiative disruptive, relativ necunoscute, pe care îi va invita în comunitate să împărtășească modul lor de a face lucrurile - din zona antreprenoriatului social, inovație civică sau tehnologică, artă, activism, educație alternativă, urbanism participativ, grădinărit urban și multe altele.

• e dispus să se aventureze într-o cercetare practică pentru a face cunoscute povești care inspira și deschid uși spre colaborare - prin articole scrise, sau alternativ interviuri în format text sau video

Pentru noi cultura liberă e un mod de viață: unii lucrează cu modele economice alternative, alții sunt adepți de tehnologii open source, alții nu înțeleg să comunice altfel decât prin conținut cu licență liberă. Despre Spot the Future: un proiect lansat de Edgeryders și o rețea de sprijin reciproc care se naște acum. În loc să lucrăm izolat sau în cercurile în care ne simțim confortabil - mereu aceiași - ne conectăm într-un grup divers, și aducem proiecte la care lucrăm deja să vedem cum le putem ajuta să crească. Organizăm un workshop internațional în luna iulie, în care sintetizăm conversația noastră de aici de pe platformă într-un mesaj pentru București oraș candidat la Capitală Europeană a Culturii în 2021. ###Cum poți aplica?

E simplu, totul se întâmplă aici în comunitate.

Spune-ne că te interesează proiectul printr-o postare în grupul Spot the Future, în ce limbă vrei tu - română sau engleză (trebuie să fii logat pe platformă). Cu cât explici mai în detaliu, cu atât ne dăm seama și noi, și tu, dacă ne potrivim

• cine ești, ce te pasionează și de ce? adică la modul serios, în ce merită să-ți investești timpul și energia?

• ce ți se pare cel mai greu în munca ta, și cum înveți să depășești obstacole?

• cum crezi că putem fi utili, împreună, printr-o comunitate de tipul Spot the Future? care sunt 3 proiecte sau oameni preocupați să schimbe ceva în comunități și cum i-ai aborda?

Oferta noastră e următoarea: estimăm munca la 2-4 ore pe zi, timp de două luni și ceva, până la sfârșit de iulie. Îți putem oferi în total 1400 EUR. Edgeryders e o companie non-profit și tânără: s-ar putea să-ți ia mai mult sau mai puțin timp, așa că sugerăm să faci time tracking, astfel încât pe viitor să aproximăm și mai bine cât ia o muncă de tipul ăsta.

Finalul saptamanii cred ca e un termen bun ca să ne orientam și să avem o idee de cum mergem înainte, cu totii nu doar cu conectorul. Ma gandesc ca daca va faceti timp sa intrati pe Edgeryders inseamna ca ceva va suna bine si ar merita sa ne gandim cum sa colaboram indiferent de oportunitatea asta foarte specifica.

FYI The reason I didn’t put a clear cut date is because at Edgeryders we don’t quite work with deadlines, unless the people doing the work on a project agree themselves on a deadline, based on project requirements. Salut, @adriana2002 si bine ai venit, eu sunt Noemi, community manager aici pe Edgeryders, clujeanca si recent mutata la Bucuresti.

Tie si poate altora care citesc:

Motivul pentru care am lansat un call deschis e ca oamenii sa nu investeasca timp intr-o scriere de aplicatie sau scrisoare de intentie care apoi sa stea prafuita intr-un sertar sau casuta de email. Dorinta mea, si modul in care lucram cu Edgeryders, e sa facem totul public - si sa dam oamenilor sansa sa descopere aici contacte interesante cu care sa ramana in legatura dupa aceea. Chiar daca acum e o pozitie platita, in viitor vor aparea alte oportunitati de colaborare… sau si mai bine, poate le creem impreuna. Ideal e ca oamenii sa aiba ceva de castigat si prin simplul fapt ca isi spun povestea sau scriu despre motivatiile generale in viata - cineva te citeste si poate e interesat de ce faci tu. Eu urasc competitia, si cred ca in comunitati nu e benefica.

My mission in life is to be a connector

Currently I see myself as a connector, I connect people and ideas, I invest my time and effort in a lot of things, from entrepreneurship to non-formal education in a formal system, from building communities to fighting against politicians and their bad choices, form social responsibility to individual responsibility.

For me every day is a challenge, from trying to develop a responsible business, to develop my NGO, to build a strong community that stands up for her rights, to be an informed and responsible citizen. My questions are local, but also global.

My mission is to connect people and make them act, activated them to be responsible. I strongly believe that the future is for communities, entrepreneurs and responsible citizens.

I believe that any community can make a change and we strongly need this in Romania, so I see around me a lot of young, and also not that young people, that are changing things, that are change makers, and their stories are needed to be heard.

Future spark connector

Hi,

A community like Spot The future in Romania would help a lot of people from different backgrounds to connect; I see this as an excellent, timely, social project, which is also a great way to promote the Romanian society.

For experience sharing I’d invite a representative from an alternative school, a representative from an alternative theater and a specialist in social change. Most probably I would host a meetup (getting in touch through common friends, online channels, etc) to get to know them & their projects better and to share this experience with the Edgeryders community.

I am currently developing a personal start up in Coaching. I think it is worth the investment of my time & energy (not only) because I like helping people in finding their own solutions and living a whole new reality through a shift of lens. I feel it’s my vocation, so I can do it very passionately. 

At the same time, I am studying Psychology, after graduating from another university & master’s degree.

The challenges I face in this start up, are mostly funding sources. As it comes to a field in continuous development it’s necessary to constantly invest in oneself: attending workshops, obtaining certifications, etc.

SOLUTION: a very personal approach, peer-to-peer, as coaching itself calls for it. Limited&personalized offers; bootstrapping, etc

“Promote the Romanian society”

Maybe that’s a little out of the immediate scope, but it’s interesting that it’s what came across from the limited communication so far about this project. My hope would be to better equip ourselves with resources to drive existing projects forward, rather than showcase them for the sake of an audience.

I may be wrong of course, what do you think would be most useful for projects like your own? Got a name for us or link?

I am Lucia, and I currently earn a living as a graphic designer, for web and print. I also train courses for kids out of passion, on digital skills and graphic design. my background is in project management, accessing and implementing European funded projects and training adults in project management, non.formal education, digital skills. although they don.t seem related they are, as they brought together my need for structure and love for beauty. for the last 2 years I.ve been involved in several international projects which involved my graphic design and training skills and from which I had the chance to learn more about the power of communities. thus I am now a part of a community of specialists gathered around the idea of changing the world of work by using collaboration and communities. I believe we moved from the informational Era to the connection Era, where the power lies in the network you have, in whom you know, not in what you know. I am fascinated by this and had several discussions on building communities for ngos and professionals here, where we will face the individualism and the secrecy challenge.  I would love to work with you on this and I believe that I am a great candidate as I have experience in organizing events and training courses, also using blended learning, so a mix of online/offline methods, and also a creative person, with passion for unleashing the power of communities.

Hello!

Even though the deadline has passed I still think this is a super interesting idea and something that the Romanian society deeply needs in order to enhance democratic development, so I am gonna write a few things about myself with the hope that we could collaborate in the future.

When it comes to my interests, these range across the entire human rights scale. I have been involved in projects promoting women’s rights, children’s rights, education, cultural promotion, rights of people with disabilities, migration, community involvement. Currently, I am part of a small team wishing to organise the first LGBTIQ international film festival in Bucharest. I am constantly looking into human rights-focused projects in Romania and trying to keep abreast with all developments in the field.

The challenges that I have been facing so far relate to the lack of transparency in obtaining funding for projects that, unfortunately, continues to be a widespread phenomenon in Romania. The manner I managed to overcome this has been simply by persevering, improving my drafting skills and using creativity to fill in the gaps in the field. In addition, networking is an increasingly important factor that I have been actively working on.

Spot the Future would be extremely helpful in Romania, especially since there is no established forum where young people with initiative could meet up to discuss their ideas and support each other. It’s something I believe we are in need of and that would be extremely helpful for the imperative networking one needs to undertake should they embark on the path of community development and human rights promotion.

I would use the contacts I already have to promote success stories and establish a network of people working on human rights in Romania. In addition, I would also focus on the online community, which, even though rather scattered at the moment, is rapidly developing into a protoplatform. I do not momentarily have a blog but this would be a nice way to engage people online and social media promotion would ensure the necessary boost . I also believe that an online platform has to be put in place in order to facilitate communicate, support and interaction. This could also contain funding and partnership opportunities.

That’s about me. I would love to have the possibility to further discuss my ideas and plans over coffee sometime.

Dragi EdgeRyders,

Numele meu este Alina si am 20 de ani. Sunt din Bucuresti, dar am plecat din Romania cand aveam 18 ani pentru a studia in afara. Momentan studiez managementul activitatilor de timp liber (Leisure Management) in Breda, Olanda, si am ales specializarea aceasta pentru orientarea practica pe care o ofera ca metoda de educatie, dar si pentru ca cred in folosirea activitatilor de timp liber ca metoda de a stimula inovatia sociala si schimbarea de mentalitate colectiva. Cursurile principale oferite de NHTV Breda sunt imagineering, project management, marketing, research, operational management si strategic network design, iar toate aceste cunostinte teoretice au fost aplicate practic in proiecte comandate de diferite entitati reale, din domeniul public sau privat.

In anul doi de facultate am facut un internship de sapte luni la Artconnect Berlin, o companie creata pentru a oferi mai multa independenta si putere persoanelor creative si pentru a le stimula sa lucreze impreuna in baza unei comunitati. Principalele mele sarcini au fost social media, public relations si blogging. In plus, am avut de dezvoltat o strategie de crestere a numarului de utilizatori bazata pe gamification și un plan de marketing pentru un marketplace in mediul online. Chiar daca comunitatile si sistemele de tip network au fost niste subiecte recurente in curriculumul scolar pe toata durata facultatii, experienta acestui internship la Artconnect Berlin mi-a oferit o perspectiva mai clara si mai practica asupra diferitelor procese din viata reala, in sensul ca am putut vedea cum, oferind o platforma unde oamenii se pot intalni si cunoaste unul pe celalalt, se pot forma comunitati puternice care sa conduca la schimbare.

Anul viitor va fi ultimul meu an de facultate, in care am optat catre o specializare in industrii creative, pentru ca mi se pare un domeniu foarte interesant si provocator, care se leaga foarte bine cu personalitatea mea, deoarece am fost dintotdeauna o persoana foarte creativa si perspicace, dar foarte structurata si analitica in acelasi timp. Specializarea aceasta va fi bazata pe modurile in care industriile creative pot actiona ca vectori de schimbare pentru inovatie sociala. Dupa specializare imi voi scrie teza de licenta (unde una dintre temele posibile este chiar participarea Bucurestiului in cursa pentru capitala culturala europeana in 2021), iar apoi as vrea sa mai lucrez timp de un an sau doi ca sa castig mai multa experienta profesionala, dupa care as vrea sa ma intorc in Bucuresti si sa incerc sa aduc toate cunostintele pe care le-am dobandit in strainatate si entuziasmul meu inapoi acolo.

Cred foarte mult in crearea de platforme sociale unde indivizii pot gasi sprijin si idei similare spre a co-crea si a face posibile obiective comune. Cred ca, cu ajutorul unei comunitati puternice, ideile bune pot gasi mai mult suport si expunere pentru a putea fi puse in aplicare si pentru a dezvolta societatea viitorului. Cu toate acestea, bazandu-ma pe experienta internshipului meu, cred ca cea mai mare provocare in domeniul crearii unei comunitati online este de a le ajuta sa devina independente. Altfel spus, de a ajunge in punctul in care utilizatorii folosesc platforma ca un mediu care vine in ajutorul idelor lor si care ii ajuta sa se dezvolte, fara a mai necesita stimuli externi.

Mi-ar placea sa continui sa lucrez cu comunitati de acest fel ca sa invat mai multe despre metode de stimulare a caracterului independent in retele, dar si ca sa incerc sa ajut idei in care cred sa creasca. De asemenea, mi-as dori foarte mult sa raman conectata cu Bucuresti, deoarece obiectivul meu a fost dintotdeauna sa imi termin studiile si sa ma intorc sa contribui la transformarea acestui oras intr-un loc destept si inovator.

Pe langa obiectivele profesionale, sunt foarte pasionata in timpul liber de tehnologie de varf si de felul in care afecteaza societatea in care traim. Sunt un utilizator avid de social media si folosesc mediul online pentru a aduna diverse informatii din diferite medii, dar si pentru a provoca discutii vis-a-vis de diferite domenii de interes personal. In medie, folosesc de la 1 pana la 5 ore pe zi pentru a citi diverse articole sau forumuri, ceea ce inseamna ca intru in contact cu foarte mult continut in fiecare zi, pe care il folosesc pentru a lansa discutii sau pentru a ma dezvolta personal. Sunt o persoana foarte deschisa, si imi place sa cunosc si sa interactionez cu multe tipuri de oameni cu diverse interese si domenii de activitate.

Acestea fiind spuse, am gasit acest anunt prin recomandarea unui prieten, in timp ce cautam un job pentru la vara. Luand in considerare tot ce am mentionat mai sus, cred ca este o oprtunitate ideala pentru mine ca sa invat tot ce mi-am propus si chiar mai mult, deoarece mi-as dori sa ma implic de asemenea in organizarea unui eveniment pentru a experimenta cu acest domeniu de activitate. Sunt extrem de interesata de tot conceptul din spatele EdgeRyders si sunt foarte motivata sa aduc tot ce imi sta in putere pentru a ajuta acest proiect sa se dezvolte in Bucuresti.

Daca ar trebui sa numesc niste proiecte care s-ar potivi cu conceptul EdgeRyders, as alege Carusel (o organizatie bazate pe harm reduction care lucreaza cu comunitati defavorizate din Romania), Centrul National al Dansului Bucuresti (un centru cu o viziune inovatoare care se lupta de ani de zile sa creeze un spatiu dedicat experimentarii si dansului, dar cu putin sprijin sau fonduri), MIRA Rehab (o initiativa romaneasca de a transforma terapia fizica intr-o activitate distrativa cu ajutorul jocurilor video) si Funky Citizens (o organizatie bazata pe activism social cu foarte multe initiative interesante). As putea obtine contact direct cu primele doua organizatii prin contacte personale, iar pentru celelalte as incepe prin a scrie un mail informativ dar atractiv, si as continua printr-o convorbire telefonica si un contact personal. Cred ca toate aceste organizatii mentionate mai sus au identitati si viziuni foarte similare cu cele ale EdgeRyder, iar de aceea cred ca nu ar fi foarte greu sa fie aduse impreuna. Deoarece cred in valorile promovate de EdgeRyder si de acest proiect, as fi extrem de pasionata si de entuziasmata sa fac parte din acest concept si sa ajut la formarea si conectarea acestor parti.

Mi-ar placea foarte mult sa ajut aceasta organizatie si sa lucrez pe durata verii cu acest concept. Momentan ma aflu inca in Olanda, unde trebuie sa imi termin cel de-al doilea an de facultate. Desi voi veni in Bucuresti abia la sfarsitul lui Iunie, mi-ar face placere sa sa ajut oricand este nevoie.

Mergem mai departe?

Mersi tuturor ca ati intrat in comunitate cu ocazia asta, si ati scris asa de frumos despre un oras pe care eu si colegii mei din Edgeryders global abia acum incepem sa-l descoperim. O parte din ei vor veni in iulie sa ne cunoasca personal, asa va va dati seama ce mari asteptari au dupa ce v-au citit

Dupa doua saptamani avem un community connector in persoana @Alex_Stef, si propun s-o sustinem pe cat de mult putem ca ea urmeaza sa ne conecteze cu alti inovatori sociali, activisti si in general #schimbalume care sa ni se alature. Putem ajuta daca facem share la linkuri sau citate din orice marturie din Spot the Future care v-a placut, invitandu-i pe alti oameni din reteaua voastra sa ni se alature spunandu-si povestea personala.
