Edgeryders proposes radical solution to urgent healthcare crisis

Press Release

Brussels, 2016-09-12

Innovative “smart swarm” application to MacArthur Foundation’s 100 million dollar grant is uniquely placed to meet the world’s most critical healthcare needs. Introducing openandchange.

Edgeryders is a global community dedicated to enabling full participation in our communities and planet. Its mission is to bring together activists and radical thinkers from every corner of the globe to find new and pioneering ways to contribute to the common good. The MacArthur Foundation has launched 100&Change, a competition that will award a $100 million grant to a single proposal designed to help solve a critical problem affecting people, places, or the planet.

One of the most critical problems we currently face is that of how to provide health and social care to all. Edgeryders believes that the solution is to take a leaf out of nature’s book and embrace the power of diversity. Their radical approach to the MacArthur Foundation challenge is to hack funding by coordinating a thriving ecosystem of hundreds of communities and organizations.

They pledge to attack the problem just as nature does: through collaboration, competition, and most essentially, local adaptation. Rather than attempt to force a one size fits all answer to a multifaceted question, their solution will be a patchwork of coordinated, locally optimised solutions. This innovative strategy is designed to radically de-centralise funding and cut through bureaucratic cookie-cutter solutions that don’t work.

The smart swarm is open to applications now. If you agree that sustainable, humane, affordable health and social care is vital, if you think you can contribute a piece of the solution no matter how small: join us at http://openandchange.care

On September 20th the Edgeryders network are hosting an online press conference introducing the collective effort and presenting concrete initiatives of community led care, as well as how they come together in a single ambitious effort. TUNE IN on SEP 20th at 17:00 CET and follow openandchange on twitter or facebook for a different kind of press conference. Learn more here.
