Prepare calls for leading and joining the LOTE social communications team

In order to make the most efficient use of the energy we put into doing outreach, and make the best use of our collective online presence as a community I believe we need a participatory process that serves two purposes equally.

  1. Build a successful communication campaign for LOTE4

2. Offers participants a great opportunity to develop crucial new skills and competences that they can then use in their future work. We are only beginning to explore what can be done as networks and swarms: the skills to get things done in these new contexts are going to be in very high demand soon.

How it could work: Through a set of online workshops (one hour google hangouts) guide/help participants working on communication for LOTE4 to

  • Define the communication objectives
  • Identify who we need to reach out to and do research to get to know our target groups (especially points of screaming pain and what they invest in/spend money on in their professional contexts)
  • Set realistic targets for what we want to achieve
  • Identify metrics and set up monitoring so we can tell how they doing at any given time.
  • Come up with low-cost campaigns for achieving ouy communication objectives.

None of the participants are communication experts and all are doing this on volunteer basis as a learning experience. So it needs to be fun and very practical/hands on. Maybe there are even an existing MOOCs for this we could use parts of?

We need a one person/ a small group of people to take responsibility for:

  1. preparing, running and following up the one hour google hangout trainings/work sessions

  2. Posting the recordings and online summaries of what was discussed/agreed on in the session and setting up tasks for the participants as was agreed during the call

To prepare: Two different kinds of calls for participation- one for someone to drive this and a more general one for community members who wish to be part of it. And make sure they are one of the three daily headlines in countonme list every day, pinned post on twitter account, linkedin accounts and in the FB page.

  • At the end of each hangout we will fill in a section of this [post/wiki/ form] and then test our ideas through activites over the next week
  • At the beginning of each hangout we discuss our experiences and when we are agreed we have a credible answer we finalise the answer for that part of the shared document/template/whatever [ am preparing it, almost done].
