I am starting a thread for general communication with and between Team Community Life.
And I’m starting with a request:
What I am noticing in the current frenzy around the permit, is that there is a need to contact Full Members who are on a break, to make sure that they are seeing the essential messages and doing the necesssary follow-up. As the care-taking team of our group, I was wondering whether this is a task that we can lodge in your team?
@AlinT, as you are one of the only ones manning the ship right now, would you have space to take this on? If not, no problem of course.
People on a break right now are Chris & Sarah, Dave, Mieke, and Richard & Maria.
@Lee : we received application from Roxane and Kendra to join the team. Apparently they have talked to you about it, but I just wanted to check that it would be ok number wise to add them, as we were already joined by Lucia and Alin, and would thus be 6 in this team. We probably need to be quite active from now on, and with people being on hollidays and all, it might be good to be able to tag team, so good to be more. But I don’t know if there are other teams that are in need of new members?
Also are we going to do our usual validation process?

A task that seems a bit urgent if we are going to make it happen is finding a date for a potential Reef weekend. We had a winter edition that was a great success and the general feeling at the end was “lets do this again”. It was a lovely opportunity to connect at a different pace and level, and a nice window into our future life together.
When we discussed it previously we thought the best time would be the weekend of the 20-21/09, 27-28/09 or 4-5/10. If we are going to do this, we really need to get started now, as it requires quite a lot of time and also booking early enough.
Would somebody be ok to make a poll for the date, explaining that this is with a big “If” for now, as we will have to see whether we can make it work? And then we can discuss things in more detail when we meet.
Sorry this is all a bit rushed! Let’s see how it goes!
Tuesday 22/07 would be the date with most people, but without Alin who has been most active in the team and also it being the first reunion for a new chapter, I feel like we should be all involved somehow…
So I would suggest we keep 22/07, and we/I have another side meeting on 21/07 morning to involve Alin.

Also, I am letting go of the weekend idea for now.
I think the focus should be on fostering opportunities to meet new members, which might be difficult if we have planned a weekend away without them in mind…
But we can discuss that next week!
Mieke had flagged to me that the team was a bit short of people, and Team R&O has flagged that it would be good to integrate newlings in the different teams. This is why every time someone who expresses an interest to be a part of the team and I figure it fits well in the overall distribution of skills and experiences in The Reef, I propose to them to join Team Community Life.
I personally really see value in the integration of newlings argument, so if ever you have too many people, maybe an option could be to split up in helping circles for different events?
I don’t know what you mean by validation process, so difficult to answer the question. Just in case it helps, a recall of the current process:
Candidate Associate Members fill in the skills and experiences document and the “which team would you like to join” one.
I have a look at it, and then I contact them with a proposal. I always tell them to contact the team coordinator to see whether they can join (so it’s never a given), provided the proposal works for them.
Consent to team membership in theory only comes at the Full Membership stage. This is because it’s not really meaningful to consent at Associate Membership stage (too much work, and we don’t really know them).

No wrong answers, we try to not force people to join us, we’re not a cult! @Lee : I seem to gather that Karla is not joining us, and Roxanne is maybe joining team external, although I’m waiting for confirmation.If that is indeed the case, then I guess that if Kendrah would want to be part of the team, that would be ok? Unless there is a more dire need of her undivided attention somewhere else?

Hi Sarah, I had offered to join this team - among some other options - when I became an associate, and Lee suggested I join this one to start with, and let Alin know I’d be joining. So if it’s fine for you, yes, I’m happy to join the meeting.
