So, we’re at an event which focusses on communities, on trying to make the lives of people better then they were with little support and resources. basically people who are committed to help their community thrive and are trying out risky things with very little support.
Well, why are we not trying to visit one of these communities, a group of activists, that have been trying to do just that? Exactly, on June 26th we’ll be visiting Vake Park, where the activists of Guerilla Gardening have been camped out for months already to stop the construction of a luxurious hotel in the middle of the park.
The action is a grass roots initiative, organized by ordinary citizens. One of the tools the protesters use to change Georgia’s attitudes is organizing several events. There have been exhibitions, a music festival, a free market and a frisbee contest. “If we show them what the park is for, to play music, have exhibitions, then they might understand why we do this and help us.” according to Nika Davitashvili. Following the protest, the media has brought substantial attention to the case, and has been reporting more on the necessity preservation of park and nature. Currently they are in court fighting the construction.
What we will be doing there? We’ll leave it up to the activists, but it’ll be in the line of the events mentioned above. Oh, and yes: a picnic. Maybe we can do some cleaning up/planting tress while we’re at it ;).
