How to collect information about languages spoken and location?

Hi guys,
we want to make it easier for community managers to make meaningful connections between people on the platform. The idea would be to collect that information when people create new accounts on the platform - or sign up to be on our directories (see freelancers.edgeryders.eu as an example - it’s a prototype but you get the idea).

In an ideal situation the information we would have these questions answered. How do we do this and still be ok privacy/ruleswise?

Get involved
Edgeryders are on a mission to boost everyone’s ability to live and work well in times of upheaval. We build and nurture platforms for groups to think together and act on today’s urgent issues.

The online platform and all our activities are designed to build a dense network around every member. Having a dense network around you is one of the hallmarks of social capital, and gives you access to expertise, resources, skill sharing and financing. In a dense network, there are many ways for you to get from one point to another. A key challenge here is for people with aligned interests to find each other, and as a community we’re out to solve just that. In this section we ask you some questions to help our community managers welcome and guide you to people and places where things are happening that match your interests.

// @hugi: Ideally we would use a vue.js ontology library for autocomplete of tags (nouns) - I looked for one and came across this but unsure if it is what we are looking for/usable? Maybe there is something else you know of ? https://openbase.io/packages/top-vue-tags-libraries //

What is the status with this proposal by now?

To me, it sounds like a perfect case for the Edgeryders Forms software, as that software will let users (1) answer a form as required and (2) sign them up to edgeryders.eu.

We’d have to polish the UX of the form a bit given that you have some special requirements about dialog elements to use for input. We’d also have to optimize how people get the login information for their new account delivered, because right now they just get the account and are expected to log in without password by e-mail (now possible) or reset their password to log in. But that kind of optimization alongside usage is to be expected.
