I would like to ‘top up’ this topic.
Within @reef-conflict we’ve been evaluating and discussing the FM moments, and I’d like to invite @reef-full to dive into the reflection with us.
I’ll be the first one (as a member of team conflict management) to admit that the last FM dinners have left us with a feeling that we did not quite grasp the meaning and purpose of these moments together. Indeed, sometimes people felt like it was not very productive. Others left the meeting with even more tension in their body than before the meeting. Some people would prefer not to go at all, for different reasons.
We’re not saying the meetings have been completely useless. We’re saying that we, team conflict management, would like to have more input from you in order to evaluate and make the meetings more meaningful and effective (in terms of connection, appreciation and emotional maintenance).
Within the team, @ChrisM remarked that the dynamic at the heart of why it’s difficult to manage the FM circle is that not everyone agrees on how to get to this ‘harmonious well-functioning community’. Things like appreciation rounds and emotional resets make some people uncomfortable, while others believe that an over focus on group dynamics detracts from the “real” work and/or that it is the (more practical) work itself that will lead to the type of community we all envision.
We can turn this discussion into a meeting, but I quite resonate with @GaultierDWM 's reluctance towards having a meeting on how to organise a meeting. So we prefer for the moment to do it here.
We’ve been struggling with the concept and the expectations of these FM moments, and I would like to hear more from (all of) you. Opinions, suggestions, criticism… all welcome.
Feel free to say whatever you’d like, but if you need a prompt:
-
How have you experienced the FM moments so far? What has felt valuable, and what has felt uncomfortable, frustrating, or unhelpful?
-
What kinds of activities or formats work for you (‘emotional’ check-in rounds, appreciation rounds, open discussions, a clear agenda, visioning)? And are there things you would prefer to avoid?
-
If you could redesign the FM moments from scratch, what would you keep, change, or let go of?
